Chicago has like 60 breweries in the city and another 120 something in the burbs. Crains is calling Chicago the new craft beer capital.

A few of the new ones will come out on fire but don't usually have a lot available. When word gets out about a good beer the beer hounds pounce, it's crazy.
They call us Denver South... Which I don't like cause we actually are just Albuquerque, we have good water and produce awesome beer from a lot of breweries.

Not as many as Denver, Chicago, Portland, Seattle etc. But there are new places doing good stuff all over. I live within a few miles of several solid breweries.

Can get award winning IPA, all the way back to amazing sour beers. Currently I am in a craft lager kick. Cannot hide behind hops when you make a lager everything comes through.

I also appreciate American pale ale's and a good kettle sour. I like crisp clean beers, being hopped to death has kinda gotten old for me.

Oh and there are currently over 70 breweries in our state.

Just for reference, we have approximately 3 million people in the entire state.

I'm being kind of a ***** right now and drinking one of the sweetest cocktails of all time, an Old Fashioned (not the kind that Randy Marsh got, although that would be fine also).

It's complicated and time consuming to make, but I cheat, I use this stuff.

The other two ingredients I use are:

bulleit_rye_whiskey.jpg

90% of the time it's beer maybe shots of Jack or something, but every once in a while a change up is called for.

I do the craft lagers occasionally for a change of pace, Bells "Lager of the Lakes" has that crispness. Not sure if Bells makes it down to NM.

I've tried some different sours that friends recommended (Ommegang was one), just didn't like them. I don't know if you're familiar with New Glarus but in Wisconsin New Glarus rules, has a cherry stout that really isn't a traditional stout at all to me, but is more like a slightly thicker cherry soda at the front and slight chocolate stout taste at the end, it gets some reviews as sour, I do like that one. New Glarus is such a cool brewery and known for being dead on with all of the various beer styles they brew.

I don't think I've ever had one, pretty well known drink though. There was a time that this crowd I was partying with for a while liked to do shots of Rye, good times and the rye was good.

An old fashioned made at a good bar by a good bartender is spectacular (10/10), it is super sweet, kind of a chicks drink. There is no way I am going to all the trouble to make one from scratch, the syrup is easy, but not as good (7/10).

I love Bulleit Rye, great for the price. The best Rye I've ever tasted is WhistlePig 15yr Rye, which is out of my price range and not 5 x's better than Bulleit.

My mom drinks Old Fashioneds.

Once, hen i was barley out of college and drinking bad beer, I was in Indiana and ordered an Old Style. "How do you make it?" asked the waitress.

Not an Old Fashioned", I replied. Tell you what, make it a Budweiser.

My dad's sister is a Catholic nun, when she would come into town he had to make her this cocktail. I watched as he crafted this drink and thought, really? I also thought it was a nun's drink because no one else ever ordered it.

Well call me a nun!
