I'd argue that player is Pierce. And maybe even KG is 2nd and Rondo would be a not-so-distant 3rd.

Doc Rivers does everything he does to give his team confidence. KG never needed praise and Pierce is widely seen as 'the guy' and the face of the franchise.

That's a cop out...

Don't need to lie to give his team confidence...this isn't OKC or Chicago...these are veteran players...Rondo knows who he is at this point. I don't know what the "guy" means but the player who makes it all work is Rondo...it begins and ends with him. And the face of the franchise it totally irrelevant...

Rondo is incredibly acitive, fast, and athletic but has had problems with turning down wide open shots. The bread and butter of their halfcourt offense is their big 3 of Pierce, Garnett, and Allen. I don't see how that can be disputed. They are old but they aren't that old.

Rondo is a good defender, rebounder and passer. They can score, but what he does compliments each of those players well. All of those players are dependent on Rondo. But again, I don't think Rivers has any reason to sugarcoat anything with this group. Rondo doesn't need a "pick me up" statement from his coach at this point in his career. He knows what to do...

Look at what happened in the Celtics/Cavs series and that will tell you Rondo's importance.
