With 4 PP goals, Brunette has to either be leading the team in that category, or near the top of the list.

As I said multiple times, Brunette should only be considered a PP specialist, and you'd be hard put to find a 4th liner that could produce on the PP to the level he has so far.

that isnt saying much.

Really? How many games have the Hawks played? - To date: 21

82/21 = 3.9.... so basically pro-rate it out to say 15 or 16.

So you're saying 15 or 16 PP goals isn't saying much in effect. And I think you'll find that is actually pretty damned good over the course of a season.

However, my point is really more along the lines of: at this point in the season it is pretty damned good.

Edit - and after checking - http://blackhawks.nhl.com/club/stats.htm?season=20112012 pull up a few seasons and see where 16 ppg's rates in the scheme of the Hawks over the past couple of seasons. I went back a couple of seasons and then started pulling them up at random -you won't find anyone with that many.

Edit2: http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/nhl/stats/bycategory?cat=Offense&sort=5

Not sure what you are looking at or expecting, since the league leaders have 6 (and there are only 4 guys out there with 6 and 5 ppg's). So in effect I was wrong in my assertion about leading the hawks in PPG, but rather, if I had looked it up, I should have stated Brunette is currently one of the league leaders in PPG.

Rip on Ben Smith, dude has been up for 2 games and he is a ghost...WHAT A BUM!

If he plays offense like this, then San Jose and Detroit will rape us!

Scott sucks too, and i am a better coach than Q

..and a better gm than Bowman -as who could forget the gems from a couple of off-seasons ago.

So of course the answer is: :hitler:

Change of heart maybe? So please explain your personal journey to realising the above (which mind you, I don't necessarily disagree with your assessment in terms of what a team should expect from what ought to be a power foward, based upon the guy's size).

QFT

I've been a big Bickell fan since his days with Norfolk just like Crawf.

When they traded Blunden, I had a feeling he could be a solid guy with hard work.

Dude has a laser of a shot.

I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't a ton of similar looking posts out there -but I can't be bothered looking for them any more.

^^^ I'd be curious to hear what people around here think of Ben Smith and what they expect of him for the future. I get the feeling that a lot of people here are a whole lot higher on him than I am - not to say I think he sucks or shouldn't be in the NHL at this point.

I personally think he is a 4th liner, 3rd liner at best. He had a good playoff run and scored a huge goal in game 6 to get him the type of love you speak of.

I don't think his career points to being an automatic scoring threat, so in that sense I would think the only sensible opinion anyone can have would be to acknowledge that the jury is out. Who knows, but he wasn't drafted on his offensive numbers -which points to more what Ice just wrote.

Who the hell cares what he is in PPG's.

He has no goals 5 on 5 & is a -6.

They could've had Simon Gagne instead they signed the washed up has been.

Who cares, He was brought in to help the PP with goals. Has he or has he not done that?

Who? Well, let's put it this way, the guy is actually producing somewhere (and is doing it pretty well -hell someone has to), and that was the extent to the point I was making. Of course as I think you tried to point out, he isn't producing much elsewhere, which I accept.

I don't think you get a + when you score on the PP- but I could be wrong, I know it is one of the specialty team situations (but who am I fooling, of course you know that). And if you can go by Wikipedia ... power play points don't count for plus stats ... and if someone is doing the majority of their scoring on the PP - well, guess what? Yeah you got it ... you are likely going to be a - player. It goes with that territory.

Since a team on the power play has an automatic advantage, power-play goals do not factor into plus/minus calculation. As a result, a player who scores two power-play goals in a 2-0 victory has a plus/minus of zero (even) for the game. Players are also not charged with a -1 when allowing a goal on the power play.

They could've had Simon Gagne instead they signed the washed up has been.

I am pretty sure that the team could have fit in another player in under the cap had they chosen to do so -but they didn't.

This whole: "wah, we coulda had this guy instead of that"... is pretty pathetic considering that according to cap calculator programs at the time -they still had money left - they elected not to use it.
