However, Soriano DID hit a homer.
Guess he won't try for the complete game since Reed Johnson is pinch-hitting.
We all know Sveum does not believe in pitching complete games.
he had 110 pitches. lulz/
Yeah, I seen he had a grip of pitches, but still.
Too bad the team that made the most sense in a trade just picked up a lefty pitching worse than Maholm who is owed more money...
Off topic but you have to like what the Stros have done. I am kind of glad they are moving out of the division because a non-Ed Wade ran Astros might actually be a threat in a few years. This always seems to happen to the Cubs. Maybe other GMs hate dealing with Theo and Jed.

I mean the Stros haven't gotten any top flight prospects back in these deals, but they've moved a lot of pieces that didn't have a ton of value coming into this season. It seems like the new guy is pretty smart and also easier to deal with which is probably why he's able to wheel and deal so much so far.
That's pretty impressive. Same with Dempster's streak too. Cubs have had some stretches where the pitching was excellent. If we could've had a consistent offense to go along with this pitching for most of the season who knows where we would be sitting.Re: Maholm, from ESPN...
Make that five consecutive victories for Maholm going back to a June 29 win over the Houston Astros. Maholm has actually given up one earned run or less in each of his last six outings (he had a one-inning relief outing on July 8). Maholm becomes the first Cubs left-hander to pitch six innings and allow one run or less in five consecutive starts since 1918.
