Right on point, I agree.Unrestricted free agent after the season, he just turned 28 and his game primarily relies upon speed. While I'd love to have a player of his abilities, I don't think the Bears are close enough to contention to justify the contract costs (especially after negotiating an extension) and draft pick compensation required to get a deal done. By the time the Bears are "good", he's probably 30 or 31.
So at that point, are you better off having the players you drafted by keeping the picks and cap flexibility from not doing a trade or having Hill on a big contract while hitting his 30s?
Reasonable people can disagree but I'd rather keep the picks and cap flexibility than trade for Hill given where the Bears are as a team as currently constructed.
