Unrestricted free agent after the season, he just turned 28 and his game primarily relies upon speed. While I'd love to have a player of his abilities, I don't think the Bears are close enough to contention to justify the contract costs (especially after negotiating an extension) and draft pick compensation required to get a deal done. By the time the Bears are "good", he's probably 30 or 31.

So at that point, are you better off having the players you drafted by keeping the picks and cap flexibility from not doing a trade or having Hill on a big contract while hitting his 30s?

Reasonable people can disagree but I'd rather keep the picks and cap flexibility than trade for Hill given where the Bears are as a team as currently constructed.
Right on point, I agree.

It’s tough watching other teams surround their young QB with a bunch of talent while fields has a bunch of special teamers to throw too…
Seriously.........NEVER, EVER underestimate the IMPORTANCE of the STs......if u want a 2nd & 3rd opinion...ask the Packers Coaching Staff and their fans.

No more excuses for Veach. He's gotta hit on these picks now, for sure. And his track record isn't great. Who are his best draft selections ever? Nick Bolton and Creed Humphrey?

Here's every single Brett Veach pick:

2018:
Breeland Speaks
Derrick Nnadi
Dorian O'Daniel
Armani Watts
Tremon Smith
Kahlil McKenzie

2019:
Mecole Hardman
Juan Thornhill
Khalen Saunders
Rashad Fenton
Darwin Thompson
Nick Allegretti

2020:
Clyde Edwards-Helaire
Willie ***
Lucas Niang
L'Jarius Sneed
Mike Danna
BoPete Keyes

2021:
Nick Bolton
Creed Humphrey
Joshua Kaindoh
Noah Gray
Cornell Powell
Trey Smith

He ain't no John Dorsey. Gotta make these count now.
That is a terrible list.

I mean, Fenton/Sneed/Thornhill are all starting in the secondary, Humphrey and Smith were outstanding on the o-line, Bolton and *** are going to anchor that linebacking corps for years, Edwards-Helaire is their starting RB, and Hardman has been a weapon on special teams and as a slot receiver with insane speed, but other than that, no one. ;)

Good point. But my concern is regarding fields and his development next year, not winning playoff games

I think if Poles/bears made this move, everyone here would be thrilled. But ONLY because he wound up elsewhere, it’s seen as a bad move for Miami.

No matter how full of shit you are (not you specially), you at least know this is true
You should change your user name to the only three letters that match your intellectual agility. We do not have a first, or a fourth this year, nor do we have the cap space. We would need to trade 39, 50, 71, a 2023 1st or second (likely a first), and a few other picks for a 28 year old receiver. No cap room or picks for an OL or a CB. Brilliant.

What are you taking about? My logic is “surround young QBs with talent” Mahomes is no longer a young QB, he’s a vet. Rodgers isn’t been a young qb in years.

What are you talking about? I’m having a hard time keeping up with the stupidity on here.

Why is everyone so upset I’m concerned with the lack of weapons for Fields in his second year after a rough first year? Just because you root for the bears and Poles is new (not pace) doesn’t mean you have agree with everything he does or doesn’t do. You can have an original opinion, thought or idea too. It’s OK.
I agree Fields needs weapons but Hill would have been a terrible play with the Bears current roster.

Btw- if this move and the Adams trade shows you anything, it’s that being able to win with a QB on a rookie contract is a HUGE advantage. Teams having to pay record contracts to their vet QBs can’t keep top tier talent for long.

It’s a shame Fields year #2 is going to be a tank year

Trading for Hill would have been like the Bears trading for Mack from a couple of years ago when they thought they were one piece away from title contention. The Bears are nowhere near that now.

Hill is also 28, so he may only have another year or two left before the wheels fall off. It's too much draft capital to give up for a team that's going to be really bad next year. Amari Cooper would have made a ton more sense because you only had to give up one pick on day 3, which is practically nothing.

By win mode I mean they currently have the roster to win it all. As we have seen, rosters can change quickly in the NFL. So just because Mahomes is locked up for 10 years, doesn’t mean their roster remains competitive. I wouldn’t be surprised to see theirs offense dip this year.
Chiefs will definitely dip this year, Bengals, Bills and Chargers will rule.

Chiefs picked Hill in the 5th round, got the best years of his career out of him, won a super bowl, went to 4 straight AFC title games and then traded him before he got crazy expensive for 5 draft picks (4 of which are higher than the round he was picked) in a year where good wide receiver prospects are available. Bill Belichick would be proud.
Good move by Chiefs but they are ready for a dip.

I never said bears should have traded for Hill. I said it’s a shame We can’t get fields a #1 wr

Why are you insulting me? What did I say to you?

Who said I want bears to trade for Hill? I said “Too bad we can’t get a #1 wr for Fields”

Are you an asshole to everyone who you misinterpret or disagree with? That’s not a great way to live. Just because others on this board use this platform as a method of taking out their aggression for being a failure in life, doesn’t mean you have to as well.

Both conferences have huge question marks on who makes the playoffs. The AFC will all the dominant teams and the NFC will a lot of weaker teams.

Trading for Hill, with regards to the Bears, would have been unwise. It would have taken the entire draft class for the Bears to pull this off. He's got a good few years remaining, but that is a lot of juice for an UFA next year. Bears are not in a win this year mode.

Just the way the Chiefs like it. Proclaim them dead before the season even starts. I can't even count how many times people said "the Patriots lost too many people" or "they don't have anyone for Brady to throw to", and they still got it done, year after year after year.

So after all that, the Chiefs not only couldn't get two 1s, they couldn't get a 1 better than #29, lol. Man, tough for the Chiefs. That's a lot of picks, true, but none are premium picks.
They got Hill in the 5th because of off field problems( I think ) but their draft record for the last few years as been putrid.

I think it's more of how u want it done..not at u......it seems like you want to throw everything into getting "weapons" for Fields NOW with a "damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead" approach......Poles has plenty to do....... Patience & Tact...my fellow Bear Brother.

Chiefs fan maybe? I like them but this hurts them.
