The topic though was serious candidates and none of those guys are serious candidates. So you are left arguing who is more unserious which is just splitting hairs. The point is if you are going to cry about coaches with no real shot at the job being interviewed then do so for all of them not just the black guy.

The Raiders werent Rooney Rule compliant until Friday. Bears on Sunday so this is much ado about nothing.

Did they announce it or did Jay Glazer leak it? 2 different things no?
If you don't see word of an interview of a non serious minoity candidate seconds after the Lions loss as bad optics and different than I can't help you.
Whether announced or leaked matters not, that the Bears let it play out that way is just so Bears.

They are doing it because hes a top candidate.

I agree but they are also trashing Ben Johnson on the radio right now. That’s by design.

What Chicago media? Is it sports talk radio? I ask because I'm not really seeing anything at all on the internet, yet anyway.

670 the score, but honestly who cares what dan bernstein thinks?

ben johnson should have been questioned a long time ago even prior to this playoff loss

People just ignored all his faults because the lions were the NFL hot team.

Didn't think the defense would shit the bed that fast*

FIFY

I guess I should have said "you guys" to include the entire team. But in all seriousness, if Johnson at all tried to deflect it onto the defense or just his QB then that would be a massive red flag on accountability (or lack thereof) and the Bears should run away from that.

Now, I expect Johnson to be smart enough to not do that. However, it would be interesting to talk to him about if, or how, he would approach things differently knowing what he knows now.

For the record I’m fine with Monken. I like everything about the guy besides his turkey neck.

Eddie seems very intelligent. I doubt he'd take this interview if it wasnt in some way beneficial to him.

There are people who probably never even knew he was coaching now, maybe he can leverage his name out in the press for another better college coaching gig?
Hell I wouldnt be surprised if Eddie leaked it to Glazer for that very reason. Rather than it coming from the Bears.

Who said they did. George could have leaked it to Glazer at that point to get as much media coverage of it as possible. Glazer could be doing George a solid by leaking it right after the game with millions watching.

So you are assuming the Bears chose the timing of the announcement. We dont know how Glazer got his info and there are plenty of times when things leak that the team doesnt want known at that time.

Not what I said at all. But continue.....

I still don't understand how Eddie George is such a trigger for yall.
What are you talking about? trigger? I just pointed out that the Bears look was bad with the timing of the interview announcement.

Seems by your user name you are invested in HBCU's and may be getting a bit overly sensitive.

The obviously scheduled the interview before the Lions loss or it wouldn't have happened on Sunday. The earliest the could see Johnson again is today and that would be pushing it. One has zero effect on the other.

The Bear may be less than stellar at things but this doesn't show it nor has any effect on a hire.
I think an NFL team could arrange and carry out an interview in one day, especially with someone they had an existing relationship with like George.

I don't think it will affect the hire, and I didn't say it would. I said I think it shows they may be disorganized.

Every NFL team does this.

No one thinks the teams are clownshows for this - they think the rule itself is a clownshow and needs to somehow be overhauled.
Every team does not, in fact, announce a Rooney Rule interview minutes after a top candidate becomes available. The Raiders became compliant Friday before the divisional playoff round, the Jags have done only virtual interviews and haven't panicked to do token in person interviews moments after BJ became available.

Monken is Arians if you think about it. Both old coaches with brash personalities who have never had their shot.
Or he is Vic Fangio. I like him but you just never know.

Monken has been an OC in the nfl for 6 years.

Vic was a DC for like 25 straight years or some shit.

Completely different situations. Monken bounced around the college game but had a ton of success as an OC in the NFL.

No one is going on and on about Kafka the way they are about EG. That's my point.
No one is going on about Eddie George, he has no shot at being the Bears HC and everyone knows that. People are going on about the ham handed way in which his interview was announced
