Ben Johnson has shown that he can run an elite offense which is something the Bears have rarely had.
The Bears have had uber hyped offensive guys for as long as I can remember. The Bears media and delusional fans will give a million reasons why this guy is different, just like you got a million reasons why all these past guys were different.

Mccarthy was the "safe" choice. I had no desire to see this organization go that route. I'd rather see them aim for the stars and crash then attempt to be average.

I understand the opposite view and appeal of having a proven professional coach, but in my opinion Mccarthy was low hanging fruit.
If we didn't have CW I would be less concerned.

McCarthy guarantees you develop CW, is Guaranteed great regular season HC.
In 4ish years if McCarthy is crumbling in the playoffs then you replace him.. at that point CW has already been properly developed.

BJ is a Great OC when given a vet QB and given a great OL, but BJ has never developed a QB, has never been a HC. We are rolling the dice on CW development that he will be a great HC or will be able to develop CW.

If BJ fails in 4 years we will be in the market for a QB and a HC.

I don't hate it.. but a sure thing does sound good when the Bears have never developed a QB

I think Johnson has more of a proven track record than Nagy, Trestman, etc. It might not work out, but you can't really fault the Bears for hiring Johnson.

Few possess your uncanny ability to remain consistent.

Yeah but McCarthy is going on his third job at this point does he still have that in him to win or is he stale now or just padding the bank account before disappearing 🤷‍♂️. Johnson is young and has six years to start a legacy

That's just it. I agree 100%.

I remember when people were talking about Johnson as a HC candidate after his first year, and it felt way too soon because the league is filled with the graves of 1 year wonders on either side of the ball.

But when he was able to do it again in year 2, and then again in year 3, that level of consistency to me puts him lightyears ahead of any 1 year wonder.

Thought this was pretty interesting and reflects on his ability to call plays. @msadows I know you were more “critical” whether Johnson could be a good playcaller without all of those weapons. He still had a solid line but he has proved he can be successful.

The first thing we have to see is some accountability, which has to start at the quarterback who dramatically fell below expectations last year. If Ben Johnson is the guy we’ll find out, but I have a feeling the Bears wouldn’t have hired him if he was telling them things they didn’t want to hear.

Very true, with Johnson the offense design and calls were all him. If he gets D Allen at DC that goes a long way in starting of things successfully. Nagy did not have his own offense and was not the long term play caller in KC, he also didn't bring guys with that were part of his offense, he inherited Fangio and that made early success happen, it wasn't Nagy. Trestman did well calling and designing plays, where he fell short was his assistants and such. When the Bears continued to get worse with both Nagy and Trestman, any good will went out the door. If Johnson has a strong staff with him that sticks for awhile they are looking at early and sustainable success.

But I think its good that Johnson chose the Bears over other organizations....I think if Johnson was on the fence about Caleb, he wouldn't have accepted the position. JMO

I wasn't out on BJ but did have him as my number 3. And it was based on resume and he had the weakest out of the 3 with McCarthy, Monken as my first 2.

I wanted McCarthy because I have no faith in our GM that looked at Flus and said that's my guy.. and looked at him again when Harbaugh was coming into the NFL and doubled down on flus..

We don't need poles to identify a potential good HC if he just went with McCarthy, we have to have faith now. BJ has never developed a QB, McCarthy is a guaranteed HC that would develop CW.

But again I don't hate BJ, just the most nervous about the Bears getting it right when they have failed over and over.
What about McCarthy other than being a larger version of John Fox intrigued you?

Nah not necessarily. I think back to when Kyle Shanahan gave up three firsts for Trey Lance and then only started him four games for the Niners before shipping him off. And that was a quarterback Shanahan chose!

He only re-posted what me and you said after he started with the race thing like he always does. I don't see a single thing that either of us said to do with race besides replying to him. It's just @remydat doing remy things.
You really are a dumb fuk.
You got caught lying. You guys brought up race first. Sorry.

I think the main issue here is remydat's prediction that the Bears would hire Brian Flores and that Flores would retain Thomas Brown as the OC. #REALTALK

I made no such prediction. I made a thread about Flores potentially getting the job and a thread about Johnson potentially getting the job. I also made a mock draft assuming Johnson was HC.

Another thing with Johnson being named as HC is names associated with him as possible assistants in D Allen, D Rizzi, OL Coach Fraley, Randell El. When nagy and flus were hired they really didn't have any big names or guys that might follow them as coaches
Maybe this name is brought up later in this thread ( I haven't reached the end) but the assistant he might covet the most for OC is Tanner Engstrand, Lions passing game coordinator. My guess is the Lions heir apparent to BJ.
