Oh, nothing. It wasn't about Brady specifically. He was just an example. It was about how now that Baalke is gone the job is much more attractive and they could end up getting a good candidate because of the draft picks and roster pieces already there.

Basically the Jags just did a back flip into an empty swimming pool and broke a leg. However, somehow, now they're sitting in the ER next to the Swedish bikini team. Opportunity knocks.
I still don’t think Jax is a good opportunity. Playing in Jax is not appealing 2. Playing overseas for 3 games takes a toll on a team too. It’s kind of a messed up situation.

And Goff was a 4 year ~4000+ QB and 2 probowl appearances before as well.. also being former #1 is meaningless.. a good number of QBs turn into busts so where they where drafted has nothing to do with my point.

But Fitzpatrick had his best Yards per game, TD per game, 2nd best com%, Highest Rating under Monken. Now that was only 8 games, so maybe his stats could of came down a bit in a full season, but regardless Monken has a proven track record of working with different skillset QBs, while BJ does not. Again more of a risk with BJ like I said
My argument wasnt about QB stats. My argument is the NFL clearly had a higher opinion of Johnson at a much younger age than Monken.

This is like a guy getting called up to the majors at 19 vs a guy getting called up at 27. Generally speaking the younger you are when people deem you ready the more chance at success. A 59 year old first time coach is generally someone the NFL has passed over multiple times so he is a bigger risk based on the criteria that matters to me (ie how NFL people perceive a candidate).

It is perfectly fine if you are assessing risk based on a different criteria (ie work experience) but that is not what I am basing it on. There is a reason he still doesnt have a HC job at 59.

Monken has spent most of his career as a college coach. He has only recently coached in the NFL, for 5 yrs to Johnsons 12. Your characterization of him being passed up frequently is factually incorrect.

He is the Fangio of offense. Easiest way to put it.

Fangio was a DC for 25 straight years or some shit

Monken was an OC for 6 years, with a gap of 3 years in college.

That comparison is stupid, its solely based on age.

Yea, rise is jumping onto some stupid shit remy said.

If 6 years of being an OC in the nfl is a lot then most guys in the NFL should never be considered for HC gigs.

I agree 59 is a tad old to be a first time head coach in the NFL, but its not like he's been in the league for decades and did not have the personality or skills to be a HC.

It was a combination of overall experience, execution, and never being a HC. It was meant as a compliment as I think Fangio is one of the greatest DCs of all time.

The NFL hires people from college all the time. He has been a full time coach since 1993 ie over 30 years with 10 years in the NFL (4 years in Jax, 3 years with the Bucs, 1 year with the Browns and 2 years with the Ravens).

So yeah no one in the NFL has thought highly enough of him to be a HC. I cant imagine 59 year old first time HCs is a successful model.

How often do college OC's go and become nfl HC's straight from college?

Most of his experience in the NFL is recent.

His success w/ jameis got him an OC gig at the best school in the NCAA.

His success there got him an OC gig on one of the best offenses in the NFL

The vic comp still makes zero sense outside of them being old. His career progression the last few years is as good as you can do in the NFL/NCAA

You attempted to wave away Moken's accomplishments by pointing out "Jackson is an MVP going back to his 2nd year". Me pointing out that point applies to BJ and goff as well and I posted the stats to back that up.

No that is just a dumb analogy. you cant compare athletes who have a short shelf life vs Coaches who coach into their 70s Besides Monken spent most of his career in College, and also NFL front offices get is wrong plenty.. look no further then the total failure to evaluate a good HC with the Bears through the years. Or look at the best minds of the NFL took a look at Tom Brady and said nope, dont want to draft him.. round after round..

Yes both old, highly successful, but never chosen to be an nfl HC. That’s it, that’s the comparison, that’s why I called him the offensive version of Fangio. (that doesn’t mean they will be the same HC)

I don’t need to take a college course on the history of Monken. I appreciate you’re his super fan, maybe you’re related to him or something, more power to you. Appreciate the unasked for knowledge.

No idea but be certainly was one of the few guys that got his shot late in life and succeeded.

How often do college OC's go and become nfl HC's straight from college?

Except I wave away Johnson's development of Goff as well. At no point have I ever highlighted that as a reason for hiring him. So you should argue that with someone who cares about that as it isnt me.

No it isnt dumb at all. The point is if he was doing something to get the NFL's attention he would have been plucked from college sooner.

Yes the NFL gets it wrong all the time. So do CCS posters with no expertise in evaluating coaches. My point wasnt that Monken cant be a good coach. My point is the NFL obviously sees him as a bigger risk than Johnson because Johnson got hired as a HC at 38 and Monken is 59 in a couple of weeks and still waiting.

Whether the NFL is right to have doubts about Monken remains to be seen but those doubts obviously exist and that is why I think he is a bigger risk. I certainly am not changing my mind because you think different as I trust NFL people more than I trust you for obvious reasons.

Bears got another black guy on the phone for DC. Vikings pass game coordinator Daronte Jones. A completely realistic candidate of course.
