Allen is obviously the first choice but Lions may also be in mix for his services.

These 2 guys likely backup plans. He can't interview existing DCs so if he loses Allen then it will likely be someone that hasn't called plays as not sure he has any connections with the other former defensive minded HCs.

It’s Allen, I’m 99% sure. Bears are not messing around they need to win to get the stadium going. They will pay whatever it takes.

That said maybe he can poach one of these guys as asst HC? Especially the rams guy he seems very bright.

Assuming Coen gets hired, it's going to make for some interesting GM dynamics. Who is really going to be in charge and reporting to whom?

Is a good GM really going to want to go to the Jags when you have a young, unproven coach with apparently a direct line to the owner? And you potentially have a very overpaid, average QB?
Isnt that what some wanted the Bears to do with Johnson ie fire Poles and let Johnson pick the GM?

If that happens they should unban Montucky so we can make fun of a DEI owner besting the unqualified white exec.

Khan probably has more money than the NFL if he makes a phone call lol.

This is why you don’t want a defensive coach, Tampa is losing their guy two years in a row. The slightest success and here comes HC.

Commanders are going to be very lucky to get Kliff two years in a row. Anyone remember Quinn after Shannahan? That culture goes to shit when you can’t score points.
Still think he is likely a strong candidate for Raiders. Raiders are pretty quiet so seem to be waiting on someone still in playoffs and given their friendship gotta think Brady has is eyes on Kingsbury.

Yes, there were some that wanted Poles gone. I was in the camp that Poles of I was good either way if Poles stayed or went.

For Johnson specifically, most people were trying to connect the dots to the Asst GM in Washington that had come from Detroit as the guy Johnson wanted to work with (I forget his name now). The Raiders even interviewed that guy, but then Johnson came to Chicago anyway.

on edit: To add, a lot of it was also due to media speculation that the only way to land Johnson was to bring in "his" GM...which obviously was not the case at all.

The best setup is a GM that serves the HC. So it makes sense if you think about it. The danger is that the HC won’t have long term in mind unless they have security.
Tom Telesco begs to differ LOL...

Raiders hired Telesco after Antonio Pierce

Had Telesco march in and fire Pierce at season end

Brady fires Telesco 5 days later LOL

What a place to work...and people think potential coaches disregard all that

I wish the Bucs were playing the jags so I could go to the game and laugh at their feud while wearing a Ben Johnson selfie shirt.

I like the part where Baalke finally took the hit. But it's still a really stupid way to run your franchise by Kahn. Coen in no way has the credentials to try and be both HC and GM.
I'm sure that he won't. They'll bring in another GM to work with him. No one wanted that job because no one wanted to work with Balke.

Except I wave away Johnson's development of Goff as well. At no point have I ever highlighted that as a reason for hiring him. So you should argue that with someone who cares about that as it isnt me.
so your in your vortex already? I said accomplishments not development. Goff just finished his 9th year.. the development stage ended years ago. I never said he developed Goff, nor did I say that Monken developed LJ.. Stop with the strawman arguments. The only thing I ever said about developing a QB was that McCarthy was the only one who actually developed a QB.. but that was a different debate about why I liked MaCarthy more then both TM and BJ. This debate that I guess spun you up for some strange reason was because I said TM was less of a risk then BJ.

No it isnt dumb at all.
No your comparison is completely dumb because in your analogy one was about an athlete where the physical attributes fade quickly with age compared to a coach where the mental attributes do not. its dumb, its a bad analogy.

Yes the NFL gets it wrong all the time.
Cool so you just made my point.. nice work

Whether the NFL is right to have doubts about Monken remains to be seen but those doubts obviously exist and that is why I think he is a bigger risk. I certainly am not changing my mind because you think different as I trust NFL people more than I trust you for obvious reasons.
Some people can look at the information available and come to their own conclusions, others need to be told how to think.. apparently you need the NFL to tell you how to think.
