"Excess fat can’t be blamed on insulin, carbohydrates or the Loch Ness Monster. Gaining body fat comes from taking in more calories than you burn. Anyone who can prove otherwise will surely win a Nobel Prize in physics for disproving the first law of thermodynamics. I am unaware of that particular Nobel having been awarded."

There is a difference between eating for health and eating to lose weight tho. Er, there can be. Objectives aren't necessarily the same. Like you say, to lose weight, at the end of the day its a matter of operating your body at a calorie deficit. But managing your diet for long term health can be a lot more complicated.

Guilty as charged. I used to wolf down a large caramel frappuccino from McDonalds every morning. Now I just get a large iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts.

disappointed in you man

Screw french press. Screw K-cups too.

Aeropress is much better. Similar concept, but smarter, faster, better filtering, more flavor, costs less, easier to maintain and clean, very portable.

I bought the Aeropress based on your post, and man it is really good. Such a simple and cheap looking contraption, but it really brews a great cup of coffee. I used the "inverted" method from the get go, as I heard this method is a lot better than the default method used in the instructions. In fact, a lot of people say to just throw the instructions in the trash and use the inverted method. For those who aren't familiar with this, just look it up on youtube, there's dozens of videos explaining it. It's very simple and quick. This actually inspired me to order some premium Kona coffee online now that I have a brewer than can allow me to fully appreciate it.

I'm sure the purists here will shit on this, but ease of use is a major factor for me (especially early in the morning). Don't wanna **** around with trying to get the water to a perfect temp, mess with a pour over, or French press, etc.

Finally got tired of the shit coffee coming out of my Keurig and wanted a drip machine with some versatility. Did some research, read a bunch of reviews, and ended up pulling the trigger on this thing:

Despite the gimmicky Ninja name, it makes a pretty good cup of coffee. Even coffee snobs on Reddit were generally pretty positive about it. Got it today and have made several cups. Light years better than that fucking Keurig.

I usually get Dunkin'. But some times i'll go to the local coffee shop near me. The problem is, their medium roast coffee is super strong and gives me a damn stomach ache sometimes.

Keurigs suck.

French press if I am feeling fancy, or I use a Cuisinart drip machine. I always grind my beans though, that was the one change I made that made coffee taste so much better.

I've got a grinder on the way too, should be here today. Picked up some beans from a local roaster so tomorrow am will be my first attempt at that.

I still use the aeropress, but not as often as my new love. I've gone totally hipster and use a 70's corning electric percolator now for ... I'd say 80% of all brews. And I've tried other percolators, not a big fan, this one model (specifically the revision I have as well) is the exception and has a cult following because of it. It's just hard to recommend one to others, because you need to know how to find one without handle issues (not hard, but because of the recall that only affected 5% of the total sold, after all they were among the most sold coffee maker in the US for close to a decade. Just a shit ton of misinformation and people who don't know how to refurbish them correctly if they are loose).

Probably better than my Keurig tbh.

If you end up considering the ninja, the link I posted above is wrong. The one I got has the glass carafe instead of the thermal one. It's cheaper, and a lot of reviews I read said they like that version better. Normal price is like $200, but I found it for $120 on Amazon. Overkill though if all you want to do us brew a cup / pot of coffee. If you want to experiment with cold / hot drinks both coffee and tea, and have the flexibility to brew a bunch of different sizes...this was the most versatile, well rated thing I could find for the price point.

Here it is in case you are interested:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FDFP6MY

Looks like the price jumped to $160. I must have gotten lucky.

I got the Nesco roaster that goes for about $150. It is rather easy and the smell is heavenly. I do use it in the garage to keep the air in the house more clear, it can get a little smokey. I should hang my laundry in the garage when I roast to soak up that smell.

You can also make a DIY roaster from an air popcorn popper. I did that before I got the Nesco.

Keurig certainly has become very popular, but part of me laughs like it was all a practical joke or a dare.

"Hey, Bob, I am going to make a machine that a) makes only one cup at a time, so it takes longer to get coffee unless you are alone, b) the coffee will not taste nearly as good as we are used to from other methods, and c) and this part is my favorite...we'll charge significantly more per cup! :)

I used a French Press when I was working in an office, because it made two cups (or a little more) and that was perfect before I left the house. Simple as can be - not sure about "getting the temp just right". That seemed like it was never an issue. Very good taste. I would put water on the stove, grind beans while it heated, and the whole process was quick and easy and worth it.

Once I started working from home, I went back to a cheap drip machine. About 1/10th the price of that Ninja. I don't see how different drips would improve flavor, and I get coffee that is still very good even from a cheap drip maker. (If referring to versatility as in - can make espresso - my drp certainly won't do that. But the coffee tastes as good as when I had a Cuisinart that made coffee, espresso and even capuccino. Got it as a gift. Rarely made anything but coffee, and it lasted 1/4th the time my cheap drip has lasted, at ten times the cost.

One last thing - I just started a few days ago, taking a tip from Alton Brown that I was very skeptical about. I add a small amount of salt to the grounds. Supposedly takes out the bitterness. The coffee I have had the past few days has been very good, with no bitterness. But I can't swear I would notice the difference between now and what I made a week ago. And no, there is absolutely not a hint of a salty taste. Just smooth.
