I don't get how you can negate the fact that the team was in ruins and needed a refresh but say that we could of stayed competitive makes no sense.

cause from reading his posts his agenda is to be the class leader of the cbs clan and basically all he doing is bashing everything cubs and argue with everone who not part of his clan..

dont know who runs this board but im sure they cant be liking every thread being demolished by a few that came over from cbs..

For the most part, I agree with Vick. Now I don't have to explain myself and I don't want to as well.

Yeah, if you said the Cubs should have signed Hamilton, you're a complete dumb ass. Yeah his .210 average looks so great with his 12 rbi's and 5 home runs. Watch out! Yup Cubs missed out! That 5-year, 125 million (25 million per) looks like a steal now!

Alright. I will play your game.

How is that 1-6 record with a 5.76 ERA, 13 million dollar a year contract for a guy pitching every 5th day working out for the Cubs?

Yup! Looks like a steal now!

.

i know, right.. maybe this guy and his cbs pals should go start their own message board..

be nice to just stay on topic of a thread

This is insanely fucking simple.

Boyd, this is a rigged game where they are right. Its in a pissy mood response/retaliation to the other thread where they cant answer your question. Its like saying "well if you claim 1 + 1 = 2 then OUR claim is 2 + 2 = 4. Debate that!" As the jazzman would say: "pay that crap no attention....."

chibears, vick, waldo, will, chris, people I'm missing.

Yet if Jackson was doing well right now with another team you would be bitching about how the Cubs didn't sign him when we had the chance, don't try to act as if Jackson is gonna blow for the whole contract, he'll bounce back. It's early for christ sake, soriano blows so far wanna ***** about that to?

I was playing Waldo's game. Just curious, did you come running to the aid of Hendry, Bradley, Fukudome, Soriano, Byrd, Marmol, and Zambrano when there were naysayers about them?

No, some take it to the extreme. I dont like people that keep bringing up Hendry a year and a half later. I also dislike when people defend every move that Theo makes. I am not a Theo hater, but I have disagreed with some of his stuff. I have also liked some of his moves. I just find completely ridiculous when people try to justify every move and when they cant they point back to Hendry and just blame him. Its a cop out and its dumb. It was time for the Cubs to get new blood in there but Hendry did everything he could. He dealt with a far worse situation going through 3 owners. Half the front office. No draft money. All for the sake of selling the team and he still kept them competitive because of his trades.

Side Note: Anyone see that second homerun Miggy hit tonight? Guy is unreal. So I went and looked up the trade for him and, wow, none of them really turned out to be anything. One time Cubbies. One time can we please hit on someone like him.

Yeah I don't know about all that. I think there are a lot of people who are just irritated that we have to watch a $106 million dollar team in a $200 million dollar market (or whatever valuation you want to put on it.)

I'm trying to be patient. Although it irritates me too that we're so bad. I think my breaking point will be next year though if they haven't become serious about winning now. Robinson Cano had better be a Cubs unless the Yankees throw something silly at him.

thats the whole point.. its ok to disagree or not have the same opinion as others.. but damn does every thread have to be about how terrible the cubs are and everything their doing is bad and your stupid for thinking that some/most of what their doing is pretty good..

i liked hendry too and yes i agree it was time for a new direction..
i like epstein, i like most of the moves he has made i also question a few like jackson and stewart but for the payroll he was given and route he chose to take in fixxing up the system and team, he has done a pretty good job to this point.

I wouldn't count on any chance of Cano, the Yanks will do everything in there power to retain him.

You may be right. But if he's there, he'd better be a Cub. He is the type of player that could immediately turn this thing around.

Don't hold your breath Cubs2008. And also, I can't imagine that many around here that didn't like the signing of Soriano at age 31 are going to approve the signing of Cano at 31 either because their contracts are going to be in the same ballpark even if the Cubs pony-up for him.

I would doubt seriously that Cano will get anything less than 7 years 175 million.

How many times have you heard how Soriano's contract is crippling the team? Be honest!

Now 18 million is crippling, but 25 million won't be. I just don't get it.

that would actually be a steal if you can get him for just 7 yrs at 25 per..

i know you said nothing less then..
i think he gets pujols type figures where it will be 10 yrs ranging between 25-30, question is what teams out there have that type of money to spend ?
doubt the angels open the wallet again... Dodgers ? yankees ? cubs ? surprise team ?

Boo, you're probably right about all that. But don't we need to finally go after guys like that again if we're going to be serious about winning?

The Cardinals signed Matt Holiday to a 7 year deal at the age of 30. That seems to be working out okay for them. Also, I think with a new TV deal just around the corner I think MLB contracts are going to have to be looked at in a different light.

If Cano can be productive through 4 or 5 years of a 7 year deal, wouldn't it be worth it, especially if he was serviceable for the other 2 or 3?

Also, I was originally very happy with the Soriano contract. I then turned on him through 09-11 when he was swinging at everything bounced up to the plate. Now, looking at the body of the deal, it really has been a good deal. he gave the Cubs a good chance of winning for a few years, was mediocre for a couple, and if the Cubs were good around him now he'd be a nice complementary player. If you added a guy like Cano now, Soriano could be a real nice 5 or 6 hitter even next year.
