Still doens't matter; he won the cup. Much like us blowing the team up afterwards.

It's one of the reasons I'm really hoping we can pull it off this year. I thought Crawford rebounded bigtime between this year and last. The Jennings is nice, but I think he, and the rest of the team, should get the prize. They still have to earn it and have a lot to go through to earn it--not just the hurdle tonight; don't get me wrong. I'm just really hoping he can win it and make most of the fans who still doubt him wonder where their god is now...Especially since he won't have a Norris-winning D-man in front of him (maybe a Selke-winning center; that's it).

My point is that there are a lot of goalies on Cup winning teams who aren't world beaters. Being a part of a Stanley Cup winning team doesn't make them one. I just don't like the saying "he won the Cup" when it comes to judging goalies and putting those who did over those who didn't. They aren't like QBs, they shouldn't be judged that way (and even in that football discussion it's debatable whether Superbowl wins should be used). It's okay to be an average goalie on a great team. That's what I want. Before this season, that's all Niemi ever really was. That's pretty much all he was with the Hawks. And we'll see if he continues to be as good next year. If he does, good for him, but I wouldn't pay the price in cap space it would take to have a goalie like that.

Exactly. I don't think Crawford is a world beater either but he just has to be "good enough" just like Neimi was, or hell, even Osgood.

I think Corey has been more than good enough. Hell, he has been huge in the playoffs this year when the team wasn't.

Yes sir, and if it is a win....he better do it in the next two series as well because no one cares about a quarterfinals game 7 if you get ousted in the WCFs. I would hate to be a goalie.

So would I. It's just another example of the wrong attitude to have in viewing in that way. Why would it only define Corey Crawford? Is it not an entire team effort? Whether they win or lose will define Crawford for years to come with him playing the position most dependent on every other single player on his team? Huh?

Who could argue with that :)Not only is it authentic frontier gibberish, but it does reflect excatly what's happened in the series.

I dont think its cory's game to win or lose at all. he has done his job this series already. If the Hawks lose its a team loss even if it comes on the heals of a Crawford flub. Craws already played well enough in games where he kept the team in it to win it. They didn't. But the Hawks aren't going to lose this one anyways (im sooo nervous though).

Jimmy Howard should be feeling the same pressure. He hasn't taken his team past the 2nd round before either and he hasn't been a starting goalie in this league for a very long time. Hasn't looked that outstanding the last couple games either (not like he has earlier in it) I don't understand why Cory has all the pressure this game and why Howard doesn't on the other end. I don't think this game comes down to either goalie anyways to be honest. I expect the same tight game and the same tight checking and hacking. But it could go all crazy who knows. NHL hockey so unpredictable.

I want Cory to win the cup so that Niemi talk just goes away and we can focus on the good goalie we have currently. Niemi helped the Hawks win a cup. The Hawks were a great team..they weren't good..they were GREAT (i would put that team up against any cup winning team of the modern game any day). Niemi had good games through that run..had great moments. However I think Crawford, already through 2 series, has had better games than Niemi did through 4 series. I also believe Craw is the far better puck handling goalie (which came up huge in the Wings series). Even if the puck handling difference is enough to make Craw the better goalie of the two then that's good enough for me. A very vital aspect of goalkeeping in my opinion and a part of that position that can indeed separate goalies. I think both Niemi and Craw are good goalies..both still young goalies to the NHL game. I think Craw has the lead on Niemi though even if it is based on something like puck handling. I'll always credit Niemi as being a part of the Hawks cup run and I'll always like him because I do enjoy watching him. But I too take Craw based on overall skill level.

even if craw has tsd spooch on his face.

Realistically though, Crawford has at least 2 more series to go through--one against a cup-winning goalie who's at least as hot as Howard, and if he gets by him, he'll face one of three: A good goaltender that can let in Huet-level softies from time to time (Rask), A good goalie probably at the Howard-level (Vokun), or a cup-winning goalie that nearly cost the east #1 seed the 1st round (Fleury).

He's been MVP-level so far but there's still a long road to go.

And I do have to say that watching the anthem, he had his game face on. I liked that. He looked ready to play with a purpose and did just that, it just sucks that Oduya had to completely misplay that one (especially after Odyua had a prety good 2nd).
