ZOMG RICKETT"S WON'T SPEND THE MONIEZ.......................despite him investing/wanting to invest 1.4 billion into the team to actually expand the financial footprint and available revenue of the team and investing a bunch more money into a front office with a history of spending money in major markets.

LOL at d3a's continued retardation.

KEY WORD: HISTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ethier isn't in his prime now. Nor will he be in 2 years.

He's actually already begun regressing from his best season

He be 31... Prime years from 27-32.. So you get 2 of his prime years. Then get his 2 years of back prime. Guys usually dont start falling off till 35. If you can see the future let me know how that goes for you

SO lets say .250 25 HR then.. Make you happier

St Louis, Milwaukee, Cincy are all quality teams.

This is pretty key. Milwaukee probably has a shit farm system now, but their MLB core is intact and they have a pretty solid rotation. The Reds just upgraded and the Cardinals didn't actually fall too far off. How much do you have to spend to get this iteration of the Cubs to at least third place in the division? That's the minimum you have to get to secure the second wild card, and that's not taking into account how good the teams in the East and West are.

Let's say after this year you dump Dempster and succeed in getting Cain and/or Hamels and keep Garza. Cain gives you four wins. Hamels gives you four or five. Garza can probably give you three. You just spent upwards of $55MM to get 11 or 12 wins over the 70 that this shell of a team would have given you, so you're hovering around .500 again and that's simply not enough to take over not just one but THREE quality teams. You also have to consider that these guys don't give you four or five wins every year for the rest of their careers because they get older and they start to suck.

2: I havent read one thing where he LOVES BOS
Google: Ethier Boston Love Sean McAdam

Then kindly get a clue and STFU
3: I want to see you pick better guys
:obama:

Talk about missing the point.

The point is there aren't better guys than that to pick, and spending horrendous amounts of money for those guys is a terrible idea to begin with. It's not that the guys you picked sucked it's that theylikely won't be avilable, have alreadybeen linked to other places and/or wouldn't make the Cubs contenders anyways.

Nice work failbot.

I disagree.

I think the tool is yours.

Well, we certainly hope the Ricketts don't become the Wilpons or the McCourts

It's kind of amusing how plebes like us are trying to tell billionaires how to spend their money  I'd trust the guys who made and were able to keep shitloads of money over myself any day.

Yeah like last fucking year.

Are you an idiot?

You honestly think Theo is going to come here and NOT spend money?(Answer that)

If he cant afford to run team after spending 1.4 bil on team then DONT BUY A BIG MARKET TEAM!!!!!!

He obviously can if he's offering to spend 250 million of his own money on Wrigley, spend 27 million on Soler, sign Concepcion, build a baseball academy, bring in Theo and Co etc etc etc.

STL is getting OLD!!!! MIL already lost big bat in Fielder, and have no farm. CIN window is next 2 years while Votto there. Again we dont know whats going to happen this year.

YOu cant tell me that

Hamels
Cain
Garza

top 1-3 SP doesnt match up with anyone in baseball? Look at PHI. They have an AVG offense but 1-3 SP studs. Then Worely stepped up last year out of nowhere. Who saids that Shark, Wood, Volstad dont become that next Worley to give Cubs a legit 1-4 just like PHI. Again ALOT OF IF's.. BUT AGAIN so is everything you guys are going for also. Rebuilding is ALOT bigger IF then getting 2 legit Cy Young award conteders, RF that can hit .290 20-25 HR OPB .400... Again you told me to go off the FA list of 2013.. I did that

27 mil on a PROSPECT is actually DUMB money spent. 50/50 shot that money wasted. 50/50 shot its a great deal. Concepcion cost 6 mil LMAO, Theo cost 5 mil per year.. Not exactly big money being spent. Reason he putting money into Wrigley cause he get that back with Advertising. DR academy cost wopping 8 mil.

Here a question for you. Easiest way to make money in MLB is? WINNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PHI, NYY, BOS sell out every game, Why is that? CAUSE THEY ARE WINNERS!!!! Cubs cant even sell out opening day this year cause team is a JOKE!!

St Louis has a great farm system IMO.

They won't stay "old" for long.

MIL already lost big bat in Fielder, and have no farm.

Young team. + pitching. Obviously knows how to build a system if they had it to trade away to begin with.

CIN window is next 2 years while Votto there. Again we dont know whats going to happen this year.
Ok well if these windows are two years and your plan can't overtake them in two years then your plan is not only terribly constructed but pointless!

.
Who saids that Shark, Wood, Volstad dont become that
To quote you:

HISTORY!

Your plan sucks.

Give up.

That's fine, you have a plan. What I'm telling you though is that the Cubs' plan was two-pronged.

1. To accumulate assets and in-house talent.
2. To improve the major league team.

If you spend out the yin yang as you suggested, you are achieving 2. but sacrificing 1. because of the draft picks that will be forfeited should you sign them all. That's huge. The Cubs farm system isn't strong enough right now that they can afford to cough up three draft picks in a single draft year. That's something a team that is close to or already contending would do. There's nothing remotely resembling a contender in Chicago right now.

BIG MARKET team like the Cubs should be SPENDING ON BOTH!!!!!! I think theres where you guys let Ricketts off the hook. NYY, BOS, PHI are spending on MLB and FARM!!!

:obama:

Not the point.

I didn't say if I agree with it or not. I simply said that it shows a willingness to spend money.

Different argument is different.

Nice fail.

Theo cost 5 mil per year.. Not exactly big money being spent.
Relative to his position he's the second highest paid in the entire MLB.

The hell are you talking about?
DR academy cost wopping 8 mil.
WHich is 8 million the mighty Tribune Co couldnt or wouldn't spend.

Yeah and the best way to win long term and make the most money over the course of time rather than shooting your wad for 2 years of .500 baseball like you want to do is: Theo's way.

The best part is you want to win so badly yet your plan doesn't even involve the Cubs winning the divsion.

i think we all Expect CUBS TO SUCK this year. SO they would not be losing a 1st RD pick. They would lose 2nd and 3rd RD... I think getting 2 CY YOUNG award SP under age 30 worth 2 picks that have about 30% shot of making team.

Theo way in BOS was to have 2nd highest payroll in MLB!!! Sounds like Cubs going Ricketts way. Cheap talent that they HOPE pans out... 2 yrs ? I think getting Cain, Hamels, makes team better then just 2 years lmao Then if this front office is SO FUCKING good like you guys belive then they should have NO problem putting talent AROUND them to win for years and years and years to come.

Obviously he's too fucking stupid to understand this Rice.

d3a: Spend money on FA's and lose draft picks...but still draft well!
