you just never know. when the sox moved mccarthy for unknowns danks and massett ( at the time ) people were pissed. so you never know if there is something going on.

if its too good to be true, than it isnt true.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. I'm such a Debbie Downer.

But you'd think they would have done the physicals and everything before signing off on the trade so who knows.

I think I'll just be happy for now :D

Sucks to see Cash go, but this is going to be an exciting young team. Sure they won't be exceptionally good to start, but thye should be fun to watch. I'd assume Sori is gone in the 1-3 days as Theo now seems to be in a bit of a groove moves wise. And wants to keep the train rollin.

So a RP and a non-prospect for a promising young 1B who was #1 on the Padres prospect list (going into 2012) and another player who could make the 'pen in years.

I'm gunna miss Cashner, but love the deal. Now no Fielder, thank you!

I love what Theo is doing... They may contend sooner than people may think.

Look for another move very soon... Wood is practically re-signed. Just need to make room for him on the 40-man roster.

Padres said Cashner will be relieving for now. So either they'll build him up slowly or they really must think Rizzo sucks.

Hmm.

Still happy face :D

Which would signal to me that soriano or garza deal is on the horizon and could be done vey soon.

If/when garza is dealt I expect it to be for almost all pitching.

Again I feel the Cubs won this trade and that is a nice feeling.

Rizzo gives us a top power prospect at an important position that we can develop and at least look forward too.

I am really starting to like the young talent that we are injecting into this team and perhaps if these guys are as good as advertised the rebuilding process will not be as long.

The youth movement is going to be exciting.

That isnt true in all cases.

I mean when Theo brought in Bill Mueller who was supposedly done and past his prime and Papi who no one else wanted for nothing and they turned out to be stars for Boston was that to good to be true.

There are so many cases of this that in some cases it's too good to be true is proven wrong. Where it is true and to good.

Rizzo want gonna play in San Digo he was blocked they were trading him and they got decent value in a guy who if healthy has upside as a closer and is MLB ready.

Rizzo still needs time to devlope but getting MLB league ABs will help him develop. The kid can hit he just has to do it at the MLB level and he will get his shot now while in San Diego he wouldn't of.

good trade for both clubs.

hope Lahair still gets some ABs this year though we are gonna sucks so we my swell have people I can root for.

It is quite exciting seeing a strictly young and potential filled lineup for one of the first times that I can really remember. Should be a fun yet frustrating (growing pains) team to watch. I'm excited.

Jed says Rizzo will start the year at Triple A Iowa and LaHair will be starter at 1B

Gotta squeeze all the usefulness out of LaHair first.

I agree. I was thinking more like within a week though, but gotta assume/hope Sori has seen his last days with us.

After all the years of the teams with Ramirez and Lee that just let us down, It's exciting to see us go the other direction and get young. Especially when it's Theo Epstein calling the shots.

What a fantastic haul for the Cubs! Nice to see we're starting to fill out our farm system with some quality prospects. I think this move definitely points to us keeping Garza, at least through this season.

While Rizzo's numbers at the major league level were unspectacular last year, he did show the ability to work counts and draw walks. I am a bit concerned that he's been traded twice in less than 18 months, but at this point I just need to have faith that Rizzo will develop into the power bat we've lacked at first base for a long time.

It was also nice to see we picked up Zach Cates too. Padresprospects.com had some nice things to say about him

If Cates is able to harness his two plus pitches – a mid-90s fastball and an advanced changeup – he will shoot up this list faster than anyone. Control plagued him all season but Cates still had a very good season which shouldn’t at all be judged on his 4.94 ERA.

Love this trade for the Cubs! :cubs::cubs:

I actually like that if he shows he can play and plays well we trade him at the deadline and call Rizzo up. If he doesnt we just call Rizzo up and Lahair can platoon.

Wow, that is a huge pick up for the Cubs with out a major price tag. Im sure one day he will be due for a huge pay day, but for now he is prolly playing on a minor league deal or something.
