I didn't realize a 22 year old top 100 prospect is a reclamation project.
Me neither. It's not like he's had tOns of opportunity in the bigs

Yeah I understand why Hoyer feels the need to come out and say that they rushed him since he struggled, but what else should they have done with how he was raking in AAA? Give him some time in AAA to mash again to start the year and see if he can replicate it sometime in the middle of next year. Also I would be very surprised if Brian LaHair was the Cubs starting 1B for all of 2012.
Unless Brian does well
i would eat crow if he does that well that rizzo isnt called up...i think he'll get called up regardless

I think we all feel this is a good trade for the Cubs. I and a few others expressed disappointment about losing an arm like Cashner that had the stuff to be a top of the rotation starter. Granted injury concerns could have certainly derailed that, but again he was the closest thing in the system to that TOR starter. That said I love having Anthony Rizzo in this organization. This is kind of like the Serigo Santos trade. When you can trade a decent closer for a top spect at a different postion you should do it closer are pretty easy to find and develop.
My feeling is Theo and co viewed Cashner as a closer. When you can trade a reliever for the top 1st baseman prospect in all of baseball you do it.
if he does well I would think we trade him at the deadline for some spects.

What team is going to give up legitimate prospects for a 29 year old with a couple of months of success in the big leagues?
I think LaHair's best chance to stick in the majors is to do well enough that he forces a move into LF when Rizzo is ready, but I don't know how well that meshes with the focus on defense the FO has at this point.
I dont know how he could be a good starter a 3-5 starter maybe. I mean he has no 2nd pitch and certainly no 3rd pitch. That is just my opinion. He has an amazing fastball and a decent breaking ball below average IMO. But he has no changup you can just sit fastball with him. Which is fine as a RP but as a starter I think teams would start to hit him well throughout the game.
I don't think teams are going to overpay, but desperation and a GM on the spot can do some silly things. That's partly why all the Garza trade talk was blown out of proportion.
I doubt the Cubs get that much for LaHair should he be traded. But at least those who are brought back will be younger and maybe have some better upside, right?
If you can get a guy with real upside for LaHair you do it in a heart beat. I just don't see a team giving up anyone with upside for a guy with LaHair's resume. I think the Cubs are better off just riding LaHair to see what he does. If he puts up numbers, you live with his defense in left until a team is willing to part with real talent for a cheap quality bat. Or he proves that he isn't a major league regular and he is left handed thunder off the bench until he become expensive.
