Tell me about it!

Still trying to figure out who to dump to get Haren.

I'm guessing a relief pitcher and a fringe infield prospect.

Sullivan says Cubs haven't confirmed Marmol to Angels rumors but reportedly Marmol told a Dominican outlet that he was traded. This could be an awesome trade.

Cubs got Haren!!

Multiple sources have Haren to the Cubs for Carlos Marmol! no other details are known. If these are the only two players in the trade. Theo is a boss.

Gordon Wittenmeyer is confirming Marmol for Haren. Could be other pieces but that is a great deal for the Cubs to trade expensive and streaky closer for an expensive solid starting pitcher with decline velocity.

Haren did pitch all of last year injured, and did show some improvement when he changed up his mechanics to combat the injury. Hopefully he'll be a nice rental for us. It'd be nice to keep him and either flip him at the deadline for some players or give him a QO after the season. Having him and Garza at the front of the rotation at the beginning of the year won't be too bad.

If Haren is just the pitcher he was last year, it is a big win for the Cubs because a starter is worth more than a reliever, even if Marmol channels 2007-2008 Marmol next year. If Haren's velocity comes back and he is anything he was prior to last year than it is a homerun.

getting ANYTHING for Marmol is good. Not having to give up any 'spects for Haren is good. Given Marmol's improvement in the 2nd half of the season and the Angel's terrible bullpen, looks to be a good trade for both teams.

Then I bukkake'd my wife.

This is awesome.

:isee:

This is a really good move by Theo with the potential to be a huge one. Looking forward to see what the rest of the offseason brings.

The Cubs have acquired Dan Haren from the Angels in exchange for Carlos Marmol, confirms Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago (via Twitter). The deal was first reported by Yancen Pujols of El Caribe (via Twitter, Spanish link).

The deal brings an end to an eventful week of rumors surrounding Haren, who was unlikely to see his $15.5MM option exercised by the Angels. It's likely that Haren's option for 2013 has been exercised as a part of the deal, but there is no official word on that yet. The Halos deadline for picking up the option is 11pm CST. We learned today that both the Cubs and Red Sox were in on the 32-year-old but Theo Epstein & Co. have apparently won out.

Marmol is entering the final year of his contract which will pay him $9.8MM. The 30-year-old turned in a 3.42 ERA with 11.7 K/9 and 7.3 BB/9 through 61 appearances last season. Marmol has spent his entire seven-year big league career with the Cubs and has a 3.38 ERA with 11.7 K/9 and 6.0 BB/9 during that stretch.

Hearing Rumors that the Angels sent the Cubs $3.5MM in the deal, too. No confirmation yet, but if it's true, Marmol + $2.5M just got Dan Haren.

win.
