Why is that sad state? He's hitting .778/.778/.889. If anything the front office should be applauded for being able to land him for next to nothing. I get the argument that there's not much else and all but that's hardly entirely on this front office. Lake and Castillo are the only 2 hitters who've done anything for them from the minors on a team that wasn't a very good offensive team prior to their arrival.

I tried to point this out when they signed Bonifacio that he was a much bigger signing than people thought but no one wanted to hear it because he was some "royal's scrub." He fills the needs of the team to a T. Granted they have other needs but he was exactly the type of hitter they were missing.

You'd hope the guys the Cubs IDed as core players are the best players, not a guy they pick up in the middle of ST.

Honestly, I don't care how they get there just that they get there. Obviously Castro and Rizzo are having a rough go of it so far. Maybe they turn it around as the season goes. All I'm saying is Bonifacio has been a strong signing which we should clearly applaud them for thus far. Also, it's worth mentioning both Shark and Jackson had strong starts which is another positive sign.
