I think we need to mentally prepare for the reality that we aren't landing Correa or Swanson. With what I am hearing about the lengths of these contracts I wouldn't want to do them either. I know it isn't my money, but bad contracts 7 years from now is not something the Cubs shouldn't want either.
Im not sure what you are reading but Im reading Twins and Cubs have the inside track on Correa. Peole think if they dont get Correa. They will get Swanson. I havent seen anything different

In 7 years, 25ish million won’t be the impact it is today
If it is that low then I agree.

If it is something like this:
AAV 35 million through year 3
AAV 30 million through year 7
AAV 25 million through year 10

This is 10 years 300 million 30 AAV
I wouldn't even mind bumping years 1-3 to 40 or 45 million just to get it done...

Also, Im not sure what Atlanta was thinking but what a weird trade. Good you got Murphy but you gave up Contreras for peanuts. Weird trade

It is being reported that Correa prefers AAV over years, at least 35 per. He also probably wants to beat Turner’s 300 mil. So we are looking at 9/315 as his asking price. Minnesota has reportedly offered 285 mil, but the term on that was not disclosed. I’m guessing that’s over 10 years.

Newest reports saying Mets in on correa and only mention giants, twins and Mets. Although several reports today strongly suggested cubs or twins. Boras is a pain in the ass and the king of using the media to get every last penny out of whoever is actually involved. I wouldn't be surprised to see correa drag this out late into the off-season like he did last year. It's pretty tiring. I appreciate the guys who just make a decision

Truthfully, he should either be looking for something that will get him back on the market in no more than 4 years or look for as much money as he can because he ain't a pitcher who could still be so dominant post 36 that he'd still garner super deal.

Lindor's official AAV is just under 34M. If he's wanting 35M AAV then the Cubs probably target Swanson harder because Correa's probably holding out for 350M/10Y.

So it wasn't about AAV, I don't think I'm going to worry too much about this one not going the Cubs way.

Better prepare for somebody to pony up 300M and 12Y for Swanson.

MLBTR might hit this on the head. Correa to SFG. Swanson to Cubs.

I would guess he falls in around Bogarts range tbh.

Why would Swanson be anywhere near bogaerts range? Maybe in AAV on a shorter deal, but his total contract shouldn't be close to bogaerts and the Cubs should sit out if it is. Jed put himself in a really bad position though

This market turned against the CUbs. The Cubs needed shorter deals at higher AAV, and it seems everyone went lower AAV and longer years.
