Yep, no team in MLB history has won a WS by signing a free agent for over 8 years. Sign and trades left out of this one.
Alex Rodriguez and Derrick Jeter both won after signing 10 year deals.

Website that supposedly shows all mlb contacts 10+ years.

I hate missing out of Correa as much as anyone who hates it does. But what offer were the Cubs supposed to make to any of the 3 signed SS that wouldn't be bemoaned? I saw where next year's FA class was mentioned, but it gets really light after those top 2, 3 if Machado opts out.

No top end FA's are really relevant as long as hoyer is making the pitch

There's a report that swansons best offer is from the cubs and it is significantly better than anyone else but he'd rather play for a winning team.

If that's true....then **** him. He's a pussy that wants shit handed to him. Any player worth his salt would say "im gonna go there and make them a winner". No wonder he's the last one to get signed.

Let's just hope his agent and the Cubs' brass can convince him the Cubs would be a winning team with him.

Swanson doesn’t move the needle one bit. If Madrigal can stay healthy, he probably hits just as well with just less power. I like the ? ? signing since he’s a very flippable asset come TDL.

Swanson probably will pull a Correa and sign essentially a one year deal to get back into FA next year when there will be less options at SS on the market. If I were Hoyer, I would offer him a 3 year deal at 20-25M per with a one year opt out. Swanson gets some protection but at the same time he bets on himself. Ideal scenario would be both Bellinger and Swanson are auctioned off for more youth to add to the stable. You can add clause that says if Swanson is traded he automatically becomes FA with a few million dollar buyout paid by Cubs so acquiring team (playoff team likely spending near the luxury tax) doesn’t have to worry about financials going forward.

Well I am certainly not beating the drum for Swanson overall, but what does “hits just as well with less power“ even mean?

Are you suggesting that the same batting average makes them the same offensive player as though the power isn’t the major factor? Someone hitting doubles in home runs versus someone hitting singles is a significant difference.

And then there’s the whole defensive side of the ball that people want to ignore all the time. Nick madrigals little singles on off don’t offset the fact that he doesn’t defend his position , while Dansby Swanson is coming off a gold glove at short stop. It’s night and day between these two players and that’s coming from me who thinks Swanson is decidedly the fourth best of the four available shortstops this off-season.

The Cubs were expected to be a year out from their window at that time. Currently people think a window should open for the Cubs next year (2024) with a lot of pitching being ready along with PCA, Davis, Mervis and Alcantara.

Again though, as my edited post above says. Cubs brought the backlash on themselves. They were very open about how aggressive they'd be and how they had much more money to spend this off-season. This is their own doing and I very much think hoyer is on the hot seat with Ricketts
Unless it was Ricketts that said no to a 10+ year contract. I doubt Hoyer is allowed to make a deal that big without the owner's approval.
