Biggest risk:
1: Soler
2: Edwards
3: Baez
4: Almora
5: Bryant

That means I believe Soler may never make it. Edwards ends up the next Marmol and the rest become avg every day players but not all star quality players.

I believe they get playing time baring injury

I believe Soler surprises people, and if Edwards becomes Marmol at worst, I will take it.

Albeit a short term, but Marmol had 4 solid years at the major league level between 2007 and 2010, hence the money and contract length he was given. :beerbang:

The problem with Soler is his motivation. No one questions his talent. Peeps question his drive.

Marmol fell in love with his slider too much and never learned to locate his mid 90's fastball. He problem was between his ears.

Edwars is the opposite of Marmol. Killer fastball but his other pitches are just average to maybe a little above. He gets another plus pitch with durability then we truly got something. If not, I believe he becomes a Juan Cruz. Soler is my biggest issue with people. I have read that he isnt the most motivated guy and it may be true. But, I want to see what he does this year because his approach at the plate is impressive. Also, his size and agility is great. KLAW saw him as a bigger faster Puig. Skills are there but the mental part is what we have to see.

So he is Starlin Castro with power and plate discipline?

Okay, I will take it.

He hasn't had the proper time to grow with his piers. A full year this year in the developmental stage is going to do wonders for his game.

If he is playing along side Candelario and/or Bryant, Almora, and possibly Vogelbach at some point, I believe that the growth for him and the others would be huge. That could be a nice union coming up the line, and winning at that level would make it even better.

Soler has the tool set to be great. This year will tell allot. But looking at the fall league he was very inconstant. When he did hit he was explosive but with too much dead time in between. Almora was by far more impressive there at a younger age. There is where the current rankings developed. Almora and Bryant went up Soler went down. Being injured in the season was a lesser factor.

Considering Soler's history playing in the the Cuban leagues he should be more advanced even at Bryant's level.

Even then. Regarding Puig: Cubs made a conservative pick with him. Puig went under the radar and was evaluated by Theo. The passed on him due to his playboy lifestyle. As we have seen come out. Cubs were more concerned with image. Sad thing is Puig could have been a Cub. The attention was on Soler and Cespedes while Puig was considered the best talent of the 3 but the biggest headache.

Puig signed for $42M, Cespedes signed for $36M and Soler signed for $30M but Puig went under the radar??? LOL!

Cubs, White Sox Both Pursuing Yasiel Puig
By Daniel Seco [June 27, 2012 at 10:31pm CST]
Count the Cubs and White Sox among the teams who are interested in signing Cuban outfielder Yasel Puig, reports Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune. Both franchises have extensive experience with players hailing from Cuba.

The 21-year-old was officially declared a free agent on Tuesday and now has until July 2 to sign with a team to avoid new financial limitations put in place for international players. For the Cubs, signing international free agents out of Cuba is nothing new as the team recently agreed to terms with outfielder Jorge Soler on a nine-year, $30MM deal. On the South Side, the White Sox have a long-term relationship with Puig's agent, Jaime Torres, who has negotiated deals with the team in the past for players such as Jose Contreras and Alexei Ramirez.

Puig declared after Soler and Cespedes were signed.

I was looking for comments I read about Theo's comments after Puig's break out.

Anyways back then the hype was on Soler and Cespedes. Puig was more polished than Soler.

Puig was a second wave guy, Soler, Cespedes and Concepcion were supposed to be the Big 3 Cubans... one didn't work out well at all, but we ended up with 2. Puig kinda showed up in the news a bit later.

I was going through Puig's history on Trade Rumors. Callas said he was a 3rd round talent in the draft.

Tell ya just shows you never know

Under the radar is not the correct term, but Cespedes signed for 4 years compared to 7 years for Puig.

The Cubs didn't think Puig was worth it. They were wrong. A number of "experts" thought Soler was the better talent at the time. So far they've been wrong.

I agree that under the radar was off the Mark. But no one expected him to do what he did. Props to the Dodgers scouting system.
