Ever since Bryant has arrives, Baez has taken a good amounts of walk. I think these two are taking the pressure off each other.

Now all they need to do is find someone who doesn't strike out that they can bring up to help those two.

They are going to strike out. Strike outs are becoming more acceptable.

In general players are going to make outs at a 65% rate. How they make the outs means little. It is what they are doing with the 35% that matters.

In Bryant's case he is an out less than 60% now. Sure a high % of that is S/O's but we are talking about he make less outs than the mean.

His OBA/SLG should carry more value here.

Except how the out is made does matter.

Strikeouts are 10-20% worse than a GO/FO.

Depends. A GO with a man on 1st is 2 outs. A SO with a man on first is 1 out. That case it is better.

Regardless, it is pointless to argue it. I could bring up a contact hitter ends up hitting more singles and would run a SLG less than .450. While a power hitter would carry more SO's but his SLG would be pushing .600.

You need both types of players in a line up. Finding one with both going on is rare to find. You can't place that as a standard.

All I'm saying is you look at OBA and SLG. That is what matters.

Take Castro. Takes little BB. Decent SO rate. OBA and SLG are not elite. Bryant, higher BB and SO rates. His OBA and SLG are elite production. If it translates. Pretty sure he will be fine though.

Baez is another story. What I like is he is taking more BB right now. His power will be there. It is his strike zone mastery that will make or break him.

It is walk rate that you have to key on for development. Not SO rate.

The Cubs should trade Jeff Samardzija, Dan Vogelbach, Christian Villanueva and one out of Albert Almora/Jorge Soler/Arismendy Alcantara/Matt Szczur for a player that is already in the bigs.

Are the Marlin still willing to trade Giancarlo Stanton? I would give up Baez to get Stanton. They can throw in another prospect not named Kris Bryant.

Eh, I know this sounds fucked up. But, I am very cautious with Stanton. He has had knee problems and has had a couple injuries in a young career. Make no mistake, he is a monster but those things scare me. How will age? Will the injuries just go away or will they continue?

I'm more concerned with "Ricketts is cheap". Losing many cost controlled for a pending payday? Doubt it

I'd say the bigger issue is he's probably destined for 1B sooner or later given the injuries which significantly hurts his value.

I think Bryant is going to push Baez. Javy got off to a horrid start. He is playing much better of late, but still has a ways to go. I hope they both somehow continue to excel for the remainder of the year and make the playoffs.

They currently are 3.5 games behind the Mets AAA affiliate, and 2.5 behind the A's for 2nd place in the Pacific league. I hope they stay hot and then get a full look at making the roster come Spring Training.

The Cubs could use a good shot in the arm with a some of the prospects as well as a couple of free agents to join Rizzo and Castro and create a little buzz around Wrigley.

I'm not sure if it is Manny or Bryant.

Brett Jackson went off for the double header. Knowing how he is on his last leg as a ball player you would think he would goto Manny looking for something to evolve as a hitter.

It is turning out to be interesting in Iowa right now. When you put a talented leader like Bryant and add a proven hitter like Manny to mold it changes the team climate fast.

That team is a fun team right now.

What would be interesting to see is if Jackson turns the page right now. Yes it is only 1 game. But in potential talent Jackson has the tool box to become a quality major league player.

His SO have been his bane.

But my question is what is the cause for the SO's? Timing? Pitch recon? Swing mechanics?

There has to be a underling problem. Seeing how he went for 6 rbi's in those games something must have clicked in for him.

I havent watched him in awhile, but his SO were due to a long swing and his 2 strike hitting wasnt very good. He would look at a lot of called third strikes.

It's more than time to stop thinking that B-Jax will ever turn the corner. Some players just don't have it, and if he strikes out this much at AAA and everywhere else, he has little to no value for any team. We already have a Darwin Barney and need to rid him from the system too.

Iowa is better served to have players equal to Kalish that could potentially fill in on the major league team while playing there. B-Jax doesn't cut it for me and personally I have already ditched Vitters too.

I can see the long swing issue going on.

They are going to have to find a LH hitting replacement for Schierholtz to bridge the gap to Schwarber.

The guy that has filled Schierholtz's void is Valbuena. But with Alcantara, Baez and Bryant he is going to get lost in the shuffle.

We are looking at Bryant at 3B, Castro at SS, Baez at 2B. Alcantara tossed to one OF spot. That leaves LF/RF to find a LH stick to split up the heavy RH line up.

Jackson figuring it out would be a option. Kalish is too light hitting. Sweeney lacks talent. Cog not sure on. He seems more the bench player.

Signing Smith would make the most sense here. Inhouse Jackson would have the most upside. Strong D. Power takes BB. Like I said his SO's have over shadowed the rest of his game like a plague. It is all we see now.

Same with Olt. So I honestly believe Jackson evolving to be a pipe-dream. But an interesting what if.

Would the Cubs pay the dollars and years for Smith? Assuming he just doubles his stats for the remainder of the year I think he'd be a 4 year $40 million dollar player
