I had high hopes for Arodys Vizcaino, but I am pretty sure he couldn't get ME out right now.

If Baez keeps that up he should get called up with Alcantara.

I'm still thinking they put Barney on wavers and trade Bonifacio (if he ever gets heathy/ 60 day if not)

It is about time they start pushing some buttons.

CF Alcantara
LF Ruggiano
1B Rizzo
SS Castro
2B Baez
3B Valbuena
RF Sweeney
C Castillo

Is what I'm predicting in Aug. I doubt they start Bryant's clock yet.

SP: read that Wada is going to be the 26 man. But it almost sounds like they are leaning towards Hendricks and Beeler for the year.

What makes you say that..

Since his return from DL

28 G 26 IP 28 K 10 BB 3.46 ERA

Not sure what you expected from his return off surgery
but that been pretty good so far.

Probably get a call up in September, get a few innings and play winter ball to get ready for 2015 most likely in pen to build up arm strength and stamina to start in 2016

He has been smacked around a little bit in AAA. Need to see more.

I wouldn't get overly concerned. .

Today was just his 5th game in AAA..

first game 4 hits 2 runs.. today 2 hits 3 runs. .

Middle 3 games 3Ip 3 H 0 runs

2 bad innings out of 5, no reason to worry or have doubts in him

I would forget the starting bit. He has a better chance closing.

And he wasn't swinging out of his shoes either....

be afraid...be very afraid. Baez is on his way back, and the numbers are all trending in the right direction. He keeps this up, and it'll be time to see him start hitting buildings outside Wrigley.

CINCINNATI -- The Cubs will fill Jeff Samardzija's and Jason Hammel's spots in the rotation with Dallas Beeler and Kyle Hendricks, who are scheduled to start Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, against the Reds.

The Cubs delayed announcing their rotation for the final two games of the four-day, five-game series against the Reds because they were uncertain about the weather. Rain delayed Monday's game by 21 minutes, but they were able to finish.

Samardzija and Hammel were traded Saturday to the Athletics, and the options included lefty Chris Rusin, who joined the team Saturday and pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief.

Tsuyoshi Wada will be added as the 26th man for Tuesday's doubleheader, and start the night game. Travis Wood will start the first game.

Beeler made his Major League debut at Wrigley Field on June 28 against the Nationals, and gave up one unearned run on four hits over six innings. Hendricks, acquired from the Rangers in the 2012 Ryan Dempster trade, was 10-5 with a 3.59 ERA in 17 starts at Iowa. Thursday will be his Major League debut.

IDK. I'm feeling ok with the decision. It shows they are going with the 2 that could become long term vs putting more place holders.

This bodes well for Alcantara and Baez getting promoted this year.

That why I said id rather see them go with beeler over wada. After a very good start his last game , why not let him pitch rest of season and see if he a long term fit along with Hendricks. .

They need to start stabilizing a rotation long term , not patch up for a year or two..

This year Wada would be a better choice. As we are seeing tonight there was a reason why he was the ace on Iowa. Beeler was the 4th best starter but the most upside in the rotation.

I just believe he was chosen due to long term decision vs short term. Seeing Baez and Alcantara it bodes well for them if some long term choices are starting to be made vs holding back for cost saving.

To date not one impact prospect has been on the team yet (not counting Rizzo who was already ready) This year we could see the final year of Hendry and next year the start of Theo's team coming up.

Lake, Logan Watkins and some of the younger pitchers(Maples...etc). There's guys who could make the major league roster at some point. It's really a shame that most of Hendry's years weren't like 2012 for whatever reason. I know SilenceS places all of the blame on the Trib and it's a fair opinion. Just saying that if Hendry's track record prior to 2012 were as good as 2012 he's probably still be GM and the cubs probably would be a contender.

Additionally, not to overly praise the current regime but seeing immediate success out of Bryant and Schwarber makes it easier to be over critical of someone like Hendry. Even lessor picks like Blackburn, Underwood and Rob Z. haven't been a disappointment. They haven't been quite home runs as of yet but Theo & Co. are setting the bar pretty high as far as their picks are concerned and I don't think that's just me being a homer here.

I think what happened with hendry was a couple things..

They rushed up a couple of their top players like patterson and pie, and in patterson case ended up possibly in bad luck as it seemed when he was putting it together he got injured and never regained what he had again,

Then it seemed as if he was content on having a veteran team that he traded away any good prospects he had to gain a player.
Not complaining about getting guys like ramirez lee and garza but trading away multiple kids for 1 depletes the system.

when you have a veteran team with no trades as 5/10 or clauses, your stuck with them til end and its harder to trade them for good prospects.

Plus, when your drafting middle of pack every year, your not getting best talents and when owner not giving you the funds to give kids good bonuses, you end up drafting more signables over best available.

One other thing I just thought of.. I remember hearing that because they didn't have a latin America camp, they were behind alot of teams who did and had a head start with the international kids..
