But that's just it. He doesn't have the most value. He has probably 4-6 years until he is in his prime. It's ridiculous to think that a 24 year old is at the height of his value.

Soler still has a ways to go and needs to stay healthy, the jury is still out on him.

Also, your logic makes no sense. You say that we're going to be brutal in the very near future, so you would trade Castro to get an arm? That's not going to change us being brutal. Let the media talk about the teams talent. Why is that a bad thing?

How much higher do you think he is going to go? Furthermore, what is the most attractive age for teams to acquire talent? When they are 24, or 29?

Pitching wins, not average defending SS's who bat .270ish. And if you haven't heard, the Cubs are lacking in pitchers, not SS's.

There is going to be plenty of thump in the line-up in the very near future, in which Castro would probably be in the 6-hole in the line-up. If I can get a 24 year old controlled lefty like Wheeler, their SS Tejada (who is a better defender), and you know Theo would probably want prospect Noah Syndergaard too (even though he has struggled in AAA), you mean you wouldn't pull the trigger on that one?

Depending on what the cubs plans are. The meta are saying syndergaard is off limits. I'm not trading Castro for wheeler and a throw in.

Castro was at .290 a week ago and his walk rate has increased. He has slumped for 2 weeks. Not many people have accomplished what Castro has at 24. You don't just push him off just because you have depth. They have to push him off and the cubs think he is expendable. Right now, I don't see that as an option. Baez takes balls at second base everyday before games. That def. means something

In other Chicago sports related news, the Bears are shopping Alshon Jeffery. Jeffery, who is 24 and a recent pro bowler is "blocking" Marquess Wilson and making him the third wide out. Wilson, the unproven wide out, is said to have potential to start, which makes Jeffery expendable. Wilson is also two years younger than Jeffery which is a BIG DEAL.

Even though Wilson has barely played, people can see the future and know that Wilson will be better than Jeffery.

Based off of that, it is a must that the Bears rid themselves of their pro bowl wide out Alshon Jeffery.

Shark is 3-8 this year with a sub 3 ERA. Not sure it is JUST pitching that wins. It helps, but you need hitting too.
Agree, I think the cubs have shown the last 2 years even with decent pitching you need to score some runs to win.

A trade not to happen. Cubs are known to overvalue

So, you think its a fair trade for the Cubs to trade Castro for just Wheeler? If so, **** me you have no real perception on things.

No I can, you just have issues. I would put my family that Theo would never trade Castro for Wheeler straight up. Seriously man, if you cant talk true ball then just stay on the other side. You look like a fucking dick head. I dont mind you and can talk with you sometimes but your hatred takes over perception. Wheeler is nothing worth Castro at this moment. Jsut because you though Castro would suck the rest of his life doesnt mean you have to be so one sided about shit. You rip on our prospects, but yet say, Castro isnt worth much. lol Fun times.

Having given it a lot of thought I frankly think it's far more likely they trade Baez. Baez was a player they inherited. McCleod has also mentioned when he was with the Padres he wasn't prepared to draft Baez had the cubs passed on him. When you consider the types of players the front office has targeted in trades/draft, Baez really isn't the same type of player.

Also consider Theo's history with the red sox. Hanley Ramirez was signed in 2000 as a amateur FA pre-Theo. Theo traded him after the 2005 season with Anibal Sanchez, Jesus Delgado and Harvey Garcia for Josh Beckett, Mike Lowell and Guillermo Mota. Hanley prior to the 2005 season was the #10 prospect according to baseball america. Sanchez wasn't ranked in 2005 but prior to the 2006 he was ranked 40th with Hanley being the 30th ranked prospect. Beckett would be going into his age 26 season in 2006, Lowell into his 32 season after all star season in 28-30 though he did miss the all star team the year prior to the trade. Beckett was coming off a 4 WAR season and Lowell was obviously coming off a down year. The 2005 Red Sox had some pitching with Schilling but with David Wells, Arroyo, Clement, and Wakefield being their other 4 it was clearly needing an upgrade.

So, clearly this wouldn't be an unprecedented move for Theo to make. Additionally, when you consider the fact that they've barely played Baez outside SS at all it makes me question the motivation. They've gone out of their way to say Castro is a part going forward. So, unless they are outright lying, SS isn't an option and yet Baez remains there. The assumption has been 2B given they've toyed with Alcantara in CF. I'd present a different idea. What if they are mentioning other positions as options yet keeping him at SS the majority of the time as a way of keeping leverage. If it was clearly obvious they had an extra piece they couldn't play in a position they would be dealing from a poor position and with SS clearly being the more valuable position having Baez spend the majority of his time there makes him a more valuable trade piece.

Also, if you remove Baez from the equation, the only prospect piece that doesn't really fit is Russell. Bryant can play 3B. Alcantara can play 2B and you have 4 options in the OF with Almora, Soler, Schwarber and McKinney. As for Russell, you have at least 2 years before he's ready for the MLB. That buys you a bunch of time to get a clearer picture. Maybe Russell doesn't work out. Maybe someone else doesn't. Maybe at 27-28 they consider moving Castro if everything goes right. And at the end of the day if you end up trading Baez for a high tier starter that leaves you in a similar position to what you would have been had you signed Shark. Hypothetically, let's say they go after someone like Mat Latos who's a 2016 FA. If they give up Baez and a McKinney level piece and perhaps something else marginal you're really not losing much if any value and you likely set yourself up in a situation where they likely would take Russell over Baez and have a pitcher they likely can re-sign long term.

Pure speculation obviously but to me that makes the most sense.

Maybe not. Baez will be called up likely in 2015 for good. If there's going to be a trade then it makes sense to do it in the offseason when the cost of pitching is less vs at the trade deadline. Presumably, if a trade occurs they aren't going to want prospects most likely and instead will likely target MLB pitching.
