So maybe I'm crazy trying to wrap my mind around this deal(also sleep deprived) but.... once upon a time Chapman was a starter. Cubs have been trying to land a young starter for eons. Chapman generally seems to get through innings in around 15-20 pitches so he feasibly seems like a guy you could get 6 innings out of. And as someone who throws 105 MPH out of the bullpen even if he had to reign things in a bit you're still talking upper 90's or 100 mph as a starter.
Like I said.... probably a crazy idea but would be one way to get more value out of a clearly very good pitcher.
He's being brought in to upgrade the backend of the bullpen.
He and Rondon are a nasty RHP/LHP 1-2 punch.
I look at it this way. Chapman is a ridiculous bullpen weapon and gives Maddon even more versatility and options.
On the field, Chapman is arguably the best reliever in the game.
Off the field though is where I can understand doubt, disappointment, disgust.
This is an example of the cost for a championship. Chapman isn't a good person.
How you view and digest that as a fan trying to balance what he can do on the field vs what he is off of it might be a very uncomfortable feeling.
