I thought the QO was voided if you were traded during the season. Also Crawford isn't much of a prospect. He's an OF and hitting .255/.327/.386 in A+. Think defensively he's decent and he plays CF. Probably not much upside more than like bench guy on a MLB level.

From whom?

I read it in one of the reports, but I cant find it now. I guess we will find out.

I'm continually dumbfounded at how many Cubs fans cannot grasp how good Rondon has been as the Closer.

Yeah, but he is the prototypical over achiever. Nobody expected this much from him and they figure its gonna end soon. Another prototypical over achiever in Piazza just got in the HOF.

All we heard was wait for the kids, trust theo, going on 5 years. Now its buy the pennant with Heyward, Fowler, Lester, Lackey, and now Chapman. Now the fans want Theo to buy it.

Since they get Warren back, that makes it Torres, Mckinney, and Starlin Castro for 3 months of Aroldis Chapman lol

Seriously though, world series or bust

This is a false representation of what the Cubs FO has said and done. They were never in buy mode until they had adequate prospects contributing at the MLB level and knew which holes needed to be filled. There is not one team that has had prospects only win a WS since FA began.

His 4 blown saves this year say otherwise.

38 innings
22 hits
5 walks
48 strikeouts

1.95 era
0.73 whip
.171 baa

Rondon has 4 blown saves but has been absolutely dominant.....chapman is a slight upgrade but it's really an upgrade to the 6th -8th innings as everyone slots 1 spot down

So maybe I'm crazy trying to wrap my mind around this deal(also sleep deprived) but.... once upon a time Chapman was a starter. Cubs have been trying to land a young starter for eons. Chapman generally seems to get through innings in around 15-20 pitches so he feasibly seems like a guy you could get 6 innings out of. And as someone who throws 105 MPH out of the bullpen even if he had to reign things in a bit you're still talking upper 90's or 100 mph as a starter.

Like I said.... probably a crazy idea but would be one way to get more value out of a clearly very good pitcher.

The deal's done guys. Its all over the news, ESPN reporting it. Chapman for Torres, Warren, McKinney, and Crawford. I think this is a great move. This is the kind of move Epstein makes because he has balls. He wants to win the World Series this year. Aren't you guys about ready for a World Series title of the North Side? This puts us in the drivers seat. After the 6th inning its game over!!

He's being brought in to upgrade the backend of the bullpen.

He and Rondon are a nasty RHP/LHP 1-2 punch.

I look at it this way. Chapman is a ridiculous bullpen weapon and gives Maddon even more versatility and options.

On the field, Chapman is arguably the best reliever in the game.

Off the field though is where I can understand doubt, disappointment, disgust.

This is an example of the cost for a championship. Chapman isn't a good person.

How you view and digest that as a fan trying to balance what he can do on the field vs what he is off of it might be a very uncomfortable feeling.

You're assuming the cubs have the lead in the 6th inning. That never happened last year vs the Mets.

Yeah I guess, but how can you not be jacked about this?! This is huge!! The Cubs get the best pitcher available in a steal. Torres might pan out and then again he might not. We didn't have to give up Soler or Schwarber to get the guy. And its possible that we resign Chapman who would probably resign if the Cubs win a World Series. I think once the guys gets a taste of Wrigley he won't be hard the keep around. I don't care about Warren. He was average at best this year. Chapman is a huge asset and one that puts the Cubs far and away the best team in baseball.

Man who really cares about the guy's personal life? I don't give a rats ass if he beat his GF. He wouldn't be the first and won't be the last. None of us know whether or not he's an asshole to be around. My suspicion is he's not. He can't even speak English for pete's sake.

Good move. Torres will be a monster but he's blocked by Russell and Baez. Both are young prospects themselves. Warren is awful -- not sure why the Yankee's want him back. And McKinney's stock has fallen significantly with poor play and injury. Not sure about the A-ball prospect we gave up though.

Chapman is one of the best bullpen guys in baseball. He's worth taking a chance on.

How close were the Yankees with Bernie, Jeter, etc?

How can I not be jacked up? Well A) Chapman apparently choked a woman which is both disgusting and could happen again and B) this isn't anywhere near a "steal." The cubs arguably payed more than the Red Sox did for Kimbrel this past offseason and Kimbrel had 3 years of control. Cubs get Chapman for 2 months. As for what happens after that, if the idea is to throw lots of money at him they very well could have done that 6 months from now and kept their prospects. Maybe that doesn't help them this year but if the cubs are "the best team in the majors" they really shouldn't be squeezing out games so closely that he makes a difference even in the playoffs. Granted you might not win 6-2 or whatever but if the cubs are in 1 run games in the 9th in the playoffs there's other problems they could have addressed.

As for Torres, whether or not he becomes something really isn't the point. The point is he has a value right now. Theoretically that value can be applied in other directions and if they are willing to part with him I'd prefer it were for starting pitching seeing as they have 1 starter under the age of 29.
