I know you believe that. And I am not saying that I 100% disagree. But I think the Cubs won't be favored in any more then say 10-20% of their games this year to win. And while they may not ever get to 120 or so losses, one could make a solid case that losing 100 on the most established franchise in sports is worse than an expansion team losing 120 in '62

Like I have said, there's a chance that the Cubs in '12 could be historically bad.

now you're completely backtracking

I never said they are/would be. U said they will be contending. Now if the dump garza...

Wait, someone here actually thought we would be contending after the plan shifted to full-on rebuild?

Whoops, should have said I, not U. And by contending not to be playoff bound but to be historically bad bound. In all honesty given both teams in Chicago 200 loses has a possibility, realistically I put the total at 188

you said originally they were going to chase the Mets....now you're using a comparison and saying they probably arent going to actually chase 120 losses...and saying you dont 100% disagree

I don't think the Cubs will sniff the NL Central basement until the Astros leave, and even then the Pirates are still hanging around. I'd still put the over/under at 70 wins.

I'm leaning that you will. Based on lack of runs, poor d, and bad pitching which will be awful pitching if Garza is traded

Rice, you think the Cubs are the same as last year?

The Carlos Zambrano deal is official | HardballTalk

Guess they can't really screw Miami financially since Z reported waived the vesting option. Ah well.

These Cubs will not be the same as last year's Cubs, but there are various intangibles that include better coaching, better conditioning and improved defense that will help prevent runs and injuries. Obviously you cannot quantify intangibles, but last year the team was projected to win about 79 games and ended up winning 71 because of various injuries and other events. This year's early projections suggest 70 wins. It's just a projection and they could swing either way (anywhere between 55 and 85) but I'm going to say that while they will be bad, they won't be historically bad. That's why I set 70 as the over/under.

Of course, if they are historically bad, then yay, #1 pick. So I don't really care.

i agree alot with rice's assessment...this team will probably be around 70 wins...last year's team had alot of declining veterans and was not well managed

this year we'll be young and not good..but you have to understand how bad the astros are....they've traded away almost all of their talent and they barely have a farm system

It's confirmed that he was an Ozzie fan.. Not necessarily a Sox fan in total.

wrong!

there are plenty of articles on his controversial interview about growing up a sox fan and wanting to pitch for them. I suggest using the internet, google to be exact and you will find the interview.

Pays to read brah.

old article

From the Sun-Times: ''I apologize to the Cubs fans for saying this but you don't have control, when you are 6, 7 years old, of your feelings. Your feelings are with the team you see as a child. For me, it was the White Sox.'' — Zambrano

Is there a move the cubs make that some of you dont like? If volstad went to the cardinals or the brewers some of you would be doing the :lmao: .
Guess you missed this follow up post by Uman...
I know. Just trying to make a joke.
As far as the move itself, I have merely presented the argument that he has some interesting peripherals that could indicate he is capable of outperforming his career ERA. He is far from a lock to be a great pitcher or even an average pitcher, but there is upside with Volstad.

I think Volstad is definitely a step up from Zambrano. In fact, if the Marlins just gave the Cubs a bucket of balls, that would be a step up. I will not complain one bit about Volstad's stats in the past, because I am just so glad to Zambrano gone. He ruined the team chemistry multiple times and I am so excited for the Post-Zambrano Cubs!

Yes, I never gave a crap what the Cubs got for Zambrano, and honestly, I'm surprised they got a major leaguer for him.....either way, I'm so glad that assclown is off the team.
