This trade adds fuel to my prediction of the 2012 Cubs chasing the 62 Mets

Really think Zambrano is going to significantly outproduce what Volstad has done so far in his career this year?

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Minnesota United FC
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Did I say that it was because of their nationalities? However, the main focal points of fans' ire were players of one ethnicity (which would be more accurate to say than nationality since Zambrano is Venezuelan and Ramirez and Soriano are Dominican).

You got your way, and they are gone. Now allow me to be happy that finally we can focus on real problems facing this team and not these invented reasons for poor performances of this club (which is the one thing I actually do care about when it comes to this team).
It's not about what you or I want. It's about what Tom Ricketts wants. And right now, Ricketts is doing things the way he wants to. I hope they work for him.

There may be a long rebuilding road ahead, but I think it will be worth it in the end to replenish the farm now, and let aging veterans go.

.

And this is where we can agree.

Why he would ever use it, but he could use his NTC to **** the cubs and make them pay him to do absolutely nothing. If you are the Cubs you want to trade him somewhere he will want to play, he likes ozzie so he will play there. I'm sure he would waive it anywhere to play, instead of sit. But if you are the Cubs you make sure its somewhere he will want to go.

he grew up a sox fan

right so losing an aging, declining hothead(who basically quit on the team) for a solid young pitcher is going to make the cubs worse?

you do realize this is 2012 and not 2008?

He sort of has a point. If Volstad doesn't have a rebound year, he's not that much better and possibly even worse than Z.

I know Z pretty much wore out his welcome. And that most Cubs fans wanted him gone.... But don't you think we could have done better than Volstad AND paying his full salary?

This is pretty much a break-even trade. Z had essentially negative trade value and maybe Theo/Jed thought they had the personnel and strategies in place to fix Volstad.

Well hopefully they know something about this guy that we don't. I know Z's attitude had most everyone probably not interested in a trade but I figured we could have done better.

:obama:

he said this trade fuels his idea that the 2012 cubs will chase the 62 mets...

now i might be grasping at straws here but from what i can judge..that means that the cubs just got worse trading zambrano for volstad

meaning that volstad would HAVE to be worse than zambrano

if he's not much better than Z...then he's still wrong

volstad had a meh year...z didnt have much of a better year,if at all...z was completely unpredictable..one game he looked like he was back to his 08 form..and then the next start he looked like dog crap

but i'd rather have a young solid pitcher than an old, pas-this-prime hothead known more for his rage than his pitching at this point...and i think volstad may have a better year

even if volstad is worse than Z..i doubt its by much....

Uh Volstad is far from solid. Career ERA near 4.60 son.

I didn't say it was a very good point, Code

These Cubs are expected to win about 70 games based on the projections I've seen. They're bad, but they're not going to be historically bad unless every MLB player gets hurt and we have to play AAA filler.

ERAs don't tell you everything about a pitcher. Especially if the sample size is small.

He's thrown almost 600 innings, Uman. That's a fairly big sample size. The good news is that he doesn't walk a lot of people and he leans towards being a ground ball pitcher, so if they can help him induce more grounders and shore up the defense, he can actually work out.

Would a lot of ground balls be a good thing? Seeing how we led the majors in errors and all.
