This offense is going to be insanely sick over the next couple of years. One more pitcher and a solid bullpen makes this team an immediate contender.

They gotta find a way to keep Schwarber up. You cant send this kids bat down after 6 games so he can learn to play catcher......

Goodbye, Chris Denorfia.

Not going to happen. Soler is the RF. Coghlan is LH and already in left do a platoon is out. He won't replace Montero or Ross. And the last thing you want is him NOT getting ABs on the bench. Sadly, there isn't a spot for him ATM, even though he is an upgrade if he stays.

Well they could do it if he plays LF. Give him a catching day here and there then continue this next year. Montero is under contract still and you really don't want to take him out of the equation.

At this point I would:

Retain him for LF.

So the line up would be:

Fowler
Rizzo
Bryant
Schwarber
Soler
Motero
Castro
Pitcher
Russell

Baez is still on the mend. When he is ready then look into another movement. Sure when Schwarber has a year under his belt then you start to think about making him the starter. But right now I wouldn't. Also they are trying to win games and sending down Schwarber is not about winning. It is about down the road. There is a medium. I believe that letting him play as the 3rd catcher for a year while learning from both Montero and Ross. Being around the staff every day. Even taking a day off to just catch the pen here and there. It all adds up and will help him. It is not all about just catching. A big part of catching is getting to know the league in general. Getting to know major league hitters. Getting to know a AAAA player is not helping him with the mental part of it.

Cubs' Hoyer on Schwarber: We're definitely sending him to Triple-A
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer reiterated Thursday that no matter how well prospect Kyle Schwarber does this week, he is going back to the minors next week.

"We're going to definitely send him to Triple-A on Monday," Hoyer told MLB Network Radio. "That's the move that makes sense for us right now."

Schwarber was outstanding in his first start as a DH on Wednesday, going 4 for 5 with two RBI and three runs. He also had one triple.

However, the Cubs are adamant about Schwarber developing as a catcher and will do without his bat in the major-league lineup for now.

"That's a position where you're either all-in or all-out, and he's all-in right now," Hoyer said.

Even though he has been pretty damn good so far, I think they will send him down anyways to develop his catching skills and work him in left field a little bit to see what they have. Don't be surprised to see him back up in September when the rosters expand and to help the club if they make the postseason.

Pretty sure Hoyer squashed the debate before it got started. I don't get it as they have Montero under contract already. Unless they use his production this year to sell high on him this off season. And I would not put that past them.

Looks like the Cubs knocked him out of the league:

Indians Designate Shaun Marcum For Assignment
By Jeff Todd [June 18, 2015 at 1:40pm CDT]
The Indians have designated veteran righty Shaun Marcum for assignment, the club announced. Fellow right-hander Jeff Manship will be called up, taking Marcum’s 40-man spot. Southpaw Kyle Crockett has been recalled from Triple-A as well, with infielder Zach Walters headed to Columbus in his place.

This is the second time that Marcum has been put into DFA limbo by Cleveland this year. He accepted an outright assignment the last time around. A veteran of nine MLB seasons, Marcum had not thrown at the big league level since 2013.

The 33-year-old has worked to a 5.40 ERA this year with 7.7 K/9 against 2.8 BB/9 over 35 innings. He’s been hurt by the long ball, permitting 2.3 long balls per nine on a 20% homer-to-flyball rate. But at least some indicators show promise: Marcum does carry a 4.22 xFIP and 3.97 SIERA.

Have i mentioned Ross is useless.. SMH

The one thing that kills me about Maddon is he uses Ross more than the bare minimum. I'd rather see Coghlan vs. lefty than Ross vs. anyone.

They have twice stated he is going down "no matter what happens", yet some people don't see that as definite.

Ross was a bad move. He should be the last player used to pinch hit. I don't understand Maddon's infatuation with him. I guess it's because the bench sucks dick in general, but still, I'll take anyone else at the plate over Ross.
