Your guess is as good as mine :D Looks like he has good peripherals. Gives up way too many hits. Arm injury issues.

Houston just stole Michael Burgess from the Cubs in the AAA phase. Cubs pass.

Grilli going back to Pitt unless a team offers him a 3rd year.

Lots of Cubs minor leaguers getting poached in this Rule 5 draft it seems. Cerda just taken by the Cards.

If they're not on the opening day roster, they come back, correct?

Marquez Smith...there's a name I didn't think I would hear again. He went from the Cubs to the Reds' AA roster and just got picked.

My guess is that it won't be the Cubs.

Same here, only question is whether or not they offer a 3rd year player/team option, or like $1M if he doesn't pitch a 3rd year...

They can be offered back to the original team for half price, yeah. They could also be on the Opening Day roster but if they're ever in a position where they are released or something, they have to go back to the original team first.

I don't think they do that with an aging relief pitcher to be honest with you. Seems like a dumb use of money. Just let one of the random pitchers they have stashed around do the job for cheaper and with less strings attached.

this isn't about you! :fist:

srsly though, Grilli was really, really good last year. that's why you pay a tad more. B/c our bullpen would've actually improved if you and I were in it.

How much money is he being offered right now?

no clue. my guess would be not a whole lot. Cubs could stand to spend a LITTLE money to pretend to be semi-interested in perhaps winning a 3-game series on occasion sporadically. :shifty:

Right, but I think despite them spending money on Fujikawa and Shawn Camp, putting too much money in a bullpen that isn't critical doesn't make sense. I mean, how many RHP set-up men do you think the Cubs need?

as many as you can get? difference in philosophy I suppose.

I'm also working on the premise that we're trying to trade Marmol. may or may not happen.

If your team as currently constructed has a subpar-to-barely-average rotation and can't score for crap, why are you bothering to invest too heavily in the bullpen? ;)
