Yea I know but I wasn't talking about that guy. Pat really knew he was never going back.

It's not my opinion Whaler, it was something I heard through the grapevine. Which if you read correctly I said a couple of times now.

I have no opinion on him as I've never seen him play. My only opinion is that Tallon wanted him before Minny took him in the draft.

While he was signed this year with the idea he could play the 5-6 man after what THEY saw at Prospect Camp and previous expectations.

Your opinion is he shouldn't. Good for you and really, thinking of it, I might possibly agree with you. Maybe he shouldn't. Although if it was between Cullimore and or Leddy I don't know which the worse evil would be. But that's 100% not WHY I typed that!!!!

As for Keith, Seabrook and Barker IMO they could have ALL used more time in the AHL, rather than being thrown into the BULLSHIT team we had on the ICE. In hind sight maybe those REALLY BAD experiences helped them. In fact that first year they were both better than our Top pair all year!
I'm not disputing his talent. Anyone can see that. I'm questioning his readiness, no matter what your source might be saying to you. He obviously sees something I don't, and it will just be a matter of time to see who is right on this one.

You know I'm just busting your stones Ron. But it surprises me that the organization is so high on him this soon, just based on what I have seen in person.

This, let me know when Cap Space can suit up and put up points.
I would not hold it against one of the league's leading scorers if he changed his name to Cap Space just for the heck of it.

I think I'd trust a few of the Hawks "eyes" when it comes to saying if a Dman will be ready..

Quenneville - 803 NHL gms (13 yrs)

Marc Bergevin - 1191 NHL gms (20 yrs)

Norm MacIver - 500 NHL gms (13 yrs)

Scotty Bowman as well....

I'm not surprised they are so high on him.

As I've said in the past, he might have the most potential out of any prospect. More than Beach or Lalonde. I thought I might of been overrating him but looks like I wasn't -- in fact someone gave me shit by rating him ahead of Olsen if I recall -- turns out he jumped in higher on that list!

Maybe they think that he'll learn alot quicker watching other D-men with speed : Keith, Hjalm, Campbell ........ pattern his game after theirs.

Ron has been saying for a few weeks now that Leddy will be our #6 defenseman this year and will get about 8 minutes of ice time per night. The fact that he is now not attending the WJC eval camp gives credence to this rumor. In the end, he might be right with his proclamation, I'm just not sure its the best thing for the player or the team right now. But I appear to be on an island with that assessment, however.

I don't know what put you on that Island. In fact I think several people have agreed with you.

I have no opinion either way as I've never seen him play. I do how ever think that what ever they do for 5 and 6 will be fine.

Another Leddy tidbit by way of uber-sweet praise from Scotty Bowman:

Scotty Bowman compares Leddy with Housley

Sunday, 08.01.2010 / 5:44 PM / 2010 Offseason News

By Brian Hedger - NHL.com Correspondent

CHICAGO – Nick Leddy didn't expect to be at the sold-out Chicago Blackhawks annual fan convention this weekend.

Once he got the call to come to the Windy City, he took full advantage of the opportunity by chatting with Hawks defensemen such as Brian Campbell, Niklas Hjalmarsson and Duncan Keith.

"I actually just got called (Thursday) to come down here, so it was quite the shock," said Leddy, a 19-year-old defenseman who just signed with the Hawks after foregoing his sophomore season at the University of Minnesota. "It just came out of the blue. It's awesome to be here."

Leddy, from Eden Prairie, Minn., was drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the first round (No.16) of the 2009 Entry Draft. The Hawks acquired him in a late-season trade along with Kim Johnsson in exchange for Cam Barker. Leddy participated in the Hawks' four-day developmental prospects camp in July, where he impressed both General Manager Stan Bowman and his legendary father, Scotty Bowman, now a senior adviser.

During a Q&A session with fans on Sunday, Scotty Bowman shed some light as to why the Hawks are so excited by the 5-foot-10, 180-pound Leddy -- whom he compared to a young Phil Housley. Bowman coached Housley, a native of St. Paul, Minn., in Buffalo in the 1980s, and still remembers being stunned by Housley's 31 goals and 46 assists in the 1983-84 season.

That was just Housley's second season in the NHL after he came straight out of high school in 1982-83 and put up 19 goals and 47 assists as a rookie for the Sabres. Housley finished his 23-year career playing for Chicago, retiring from the NHL with 338 career goals and 894 assists in 1,495 games.

"(Housley) came right out of high school and went to the NHL and scored 31 goals as a defenseman," Bowman told fans. "People don't really realize that. Bobby Orr never even did that. Most people with the Blackhawks don't remember Phil Housley, other than when he was here and he was a 40-year old player. I remember when he was 18. I put Leddy in the same class as Housley -- his skating, his head, his heart. It's these kinds of players who can come in and surprise."

Stan Bowman was asked about Leddy's chances to make the Hawks roster this season and classified the possibility as a "Cinderella story" if it were to happen. That means he'll likely start out at AHL Rockford , but don't expect him to play in the minors for too long.

"They say I'm pretty close, but I still have to keep working and prove myself," said Leddy, who had 3 goals and 8 assists in 30 games as a freshman for the Golden Gophers. "We'll see what happens."

The last time Scotty was heaping praise on a Hawks D-man prospect was Hjalmarsson I believe. Well in any event, no matter when he finally gets called up, it's heartening to read such good things about so many of the Hawks prospects. Though anemic on G, I am otherwise effin' lovin' the Hawks prospects pool these days!

At a seminar this morning, Scotty was talking about how impressed he was with Leddy at the Prospects camp. He compared him to Housley, which i thought was one hell of a compliment.

He mentioned that Leddy would probably be going to the Rock this season. No surprise there.

Remember that he only just turned 19 a few months ago, only played part of a college season last year (30 games), he is small, and he is a defenseman (who take longer to develop). This isn't revolutionary, but My thinking would be 22 minutes a nite in the A would be best for his development. Actually, i'm still surprised he's not going back to Minny. But I guess if you impress Scotty, doors open up for you.

EDIT: i didn't see that post above before I posted. Not trying to broadcast reruns here. I was at the damb seminar!
