What do you mean by expecting him to be better as a rookie than he was for the Vols? If he got 800 yards he'd be a huge success. Are you saying people expect him to do better than 800 yards?

And if he barely contributes it's a bad pick.

I'm not going to put a number on it but he needs to be an actual contributing WR next year. Not just a punt returner.
then he turned out to be neither

#calledit

He’s bad at route running and catching the football cleanly with his hands, but he’s great at running with the ball.

Basically a kick/punt returner and gadget player in on offense.

I’d be shocked if he ever becomes a productive NFL receiver.

Seems a bit high for Veejayjay

Ryan poles wasnt here in 2021

Makes more sense to compare Velus to the guy the packers drafted in the 4th round the same year(Romeo Doubs)

Also I pretty much called this one, then again so did mostly everyone. This is about the only pick I can remember that a ton of people hated from day 1.

Drafting speed WR's who cant run routes is dumb as ****. The most important trait for an NFL WR is route running. Sure, speed is great but plenty of slower guys have had tremendous success in the NFL.

Ok, fine then.
Would you rather trade the 33rd overall pick for Chase Claypool or draft Amon St. Brown in the 4th round?

Better?

Poles couldnt have drafted st brown because he was not a GM in 2021.

Chase claypool was a shit move but it was a desperation move since they needed to find out what they had in justin fields. A large majority of this board understood or liked the move at the time.

If we're going to go back and pick out hits I'd rather just have drafted Tom Brady in the sixth round.

His problem was he sucked
Ummm you don't make it to the league if you suck.....some players continue to strive, some settle, some rely on God given talent that got them there, don't work hard and care less, because they "made it"....Velus was definitely in the last group

Sucked is relative to the talent around them. He sucked.

Velus worked hard. He just never had any NFL talent, guy was overdrafted because he was tall and fast.

I did also want to note he was working with Ryan Pace's scouting team that year

So for all the RE-Re's who wanted poles fired you'd still have the new GM working off his scouting reports.

Poles rolled the dice. That wasn't the issue. Rolling those at the top of 3 is an issue. Even letting QB1 have a choice in the matter is also questionable but you still don't take him a round early.

Ima say velus was a justin fields pick lol, jk

Does not excuse drafting a WR two years in a row who's fast with no hands and who cant run routes.

Tyler scott is about to be in year 3 of the NFL and his game is still trash. Cant track the ball, body catches, and cant run routes. Kind of sad. It's why im happy this team drafted Rome because he was a no brainer talent. Don't need poles trying to get cute in the 3rd/4th rounds looking for another stone hands WR
