i'm sure the Cubs managment knows that a TOR pitcher is the priority, either you sign a FA or trade for a TOR pitcher but why should we trade part of our talent to get a pitcher when there is Greinke as a FA? Give him what he wants and make the Cubs a real contender

I agree with you about signing FAs. Spending money to fortify the roster should be a non-issue at this point. No major market team should ever go 100+ years without a WS appearance. The Cubs are flush with cash, with a roster full of young (cheap) talent. There is simply no excuse for the Cubs to be in "thrift" mode.

Also, I don't see the point in hoarding infielders if there are teams willing to part with young (controllable) arms. You've asked the fans to step up and pay more money for tickets. You should step up and adjust the roster to build a championship caliber team.

White Sox fans are stoked about the Boston Red Sox signing a really good pitcher to a big deal.

What am I missing?

Exactly, there team is in shambles so they go to other boards. ChiSoxCity is just a mid 50's troll doe. You just point and laugh at him.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
Arrietta + Greinke + Lester would be enough to get there. Shark would be a non-factor unless he's your 4th starter.

yeah obviously i meant Shark as the 4th starter

Laugh at me for saying the Cubs need another ace if they want a championship? Seriously?

And mid 50's troll? Just wow.

The Cubs are built to win 90+ games.

They aren't built to win a championship... they don't have the pitching depth and they strike out too much.

No reason in the world why they shouldn't be spending money on top free agents right now.

Also, there's no reason why they shouldn't be able to acquire controllable young pitchers right now, considering the horde of position players in the organization.

But we are talking about the Cubs after all. And we all know how this thing is going to play out.

The Cubs could have had Scherzer, Greinke or Price. Sadly, they hate spending money on top FAs, and don't know how to invest it properly, as evidenced by the Lester signing.

Besides, Greinke is looking for $200MM+ and I doubt he has any interest in the Cubs.

Look at the contending teams in the NL right now.

You need two Aces to get to a WS, folks. TWO!

Laugh at me for saying the Cubs need another ace if they want a championship? Seriously?

And mid 50's troll? Just wow.

You're not missing anything, Sox fans hate the Cubs more than they like the Sox. Just the same old shit.

What is your point? You have some delicate sensitivities for a mod. Speculation around the baseball world is that Greinke has preferences about where he goes, and the Cubs aren't one of those teams. Also, to ignore the history of this organization seems a wee bit irrational and insecure, don't you think. Quit crying, quit bating Sox fans, leave people alone for once, and let us get back to talking baseball. k, thanks.

What? delicate and sensitive? Sounds like your manhood! The history of the Cubs????? Are you fuckin kidding me???? Are you talking about the last FOUR years? You fuckin Sox fans need to get off the last 100 years!!!

The Cubs are under new ownership and new management!!!! Your fuckin pathetic attempts to go back in history are just pathetic!!!! Furthermore.... if you want to look at these past FOUR year of the Cubs rebuild..... I could point out that the Cubs have the best record THREE of those years compared to the SUX!!!!

Most Cubs fans don't hate Sox fans, they just hate Sox idiot fans like YOU!!!! Get ready to be the Cubs bitches for years to come, although, I hope that you can keep up, as I hope to see Chicago WS one day......

But until then, welcome to being my cubbie blue *****!!!!

If the Cubs were in at 7 years and 180 total they were not in at all. Price was going to get 200 million and be around 30 per year. Price took the most money offered. Good for him.

If the Cubs limit was 180, they should have never even called Price and gone after Zimmerman. That would have made much more sense.

I am starting to think Cueto might be the pitcher that gets unpaid the most and brings the most value to cost. I know he has thrown a lot of innings and has had some injuries, but right now he seems like he might be the best bet.

They don't need another 30 mil per year pitcher. There is a chain reaction to that move that includes not retaining our Cy-Young who will command that amount and maybe being forced to trade a few of the core as their price tags increase.

I'm fine with Greinke and Price elsewhere outside of the NL central.

Swear Cards don't blow up payroll in panic mode and still go out every year and dominate. Even trading out quality talent when needed. (Miller for Heywerd)

Something to learn here.

I'm watching and learning what Theo does this off season. His frugalness is something to learn from. Depth is a great thing. I look forward to see what his big splash is gonna be.

But I thought he would give the Cubs a discount because they were an up and coming team and he played for Maddon! [/greentext]

Here in St Louis, every off season they sincerely think players will sign with Cards at a discount for the "honor" of being a Cardinal.

It has yet to happen.
