They don't need another 30 mil per year pitcher. There is a chain reaction to that move that includes not retaining our Cy-Young who will command that amount and maybe being forced to trade a few of the core as their price tags increase.

I'm fine with Greinke and Price elsewhere outside of the NL central.

Swear Cards don't blow up payroll in panic mode and still go out every year and dominate. Even trading out quality talent when needed. (Miller for Heywerd)

Something to learn here.

Cards compete. They don't dominate

Here in St Louis, every off season they sincerely think players will sign with Cards at a discount for the "honor" of being a Cardinal.

It has yet to happen.
It's all about the $$$$. Very few players give a hometown discount.

What is your point? You have some delicate sensitivities for a mod. Speculation around the baseball world is that Greinke has preferences about where he goes, and the Cubs aren't one of those teams. Also, to ignore the history of this organization seems a wee bit irrational and insecure, don't you think. Quit crying, quit bating Sox fans, leave people alone for once, and let us get back to talking baseball. k, thanks.

What if the Cubs trade Soler for Shelby Miller, and then sign Jason Heyward?

Could upgrade the rotation and the OF for less than Price/Greinke would cost AAV

What? delicate and sensitive? Sounds like your manhood! The history of the Cubs????? Are you fuckin kidding me???? Are you talking about the last FOUR years? You fuckin Sox fans need to get off the last 100 years!!!

The Cubs are under new ownership and new management!!!! Your fuckin pathetic attempts to go back in history are just pathetic!!!! Furthermore.... if you want to look at these past FOUR year of the Cubs rebuild..... I could point out that the Cubs have the best record THREE of those years compared to the SUX!!!!

Most Cubs fans don't hate Sox fans, they just hate Sox idiot fans like YOU!!!! Get ready to be the Cubs bitches for years to come, although, I hope that you can keep up, as I hope to see Chicago WS one day......

But until then, welcome to being my cubbie blue *****!!!!

Why bother responding to that clown?

Well, yes, they would upgrade their pitching but not as much.

But I do think that's a better value.

You better get more than just Shelby Miller for Soler. First off, I want no part of Miller. I would rather them go after either Cleveland pitcher if I had the choice.

Second, since the Cubs have holes to fill, they will probably have to go after a veteran pitcher via free agency, and a young pitcher via trade, and then pursue a CF'er and lead-off man (preferably the same guy) as money would be an issue. Heyward might be a little bit of a long shot here, and doesn't solve the lead-off position, nor CF'er really, even though I'd love to have him and he would fit well in this line-up as young as he is.

If they were to trade for a young pitcher using Soler for instance, and also sign a veteran to give them depth (frankly the Cubs were lucky last year), then they might be able to use some of the farm to go after a stop gap like Ben Revere who is still just 27.

Sure, he has no power, but his OBP is respectable and he gives the Cubs speed at the top of the order. He is 2nd year Arb eligible which would be perfect for the Cubs, because they could be creative enough to still get that MOR pitcher like Lackey, Shark, or Leake.

This could be very close to the dollar figure that they could spend which would be in the 23-25 million dollar area, and still leave about 5 million to throw at the pen.

The Cubs were fairly lucky not to have pitcher go down other than Hammel, and they need to be prepared for that and be at least 6 deep.

Exactly, there team is in shambles so they go to other boards. ChiSoxCity is just a mid 50's troll doe. You just point and laugh at him.

And Brett is a 40+ year old pizza delivery boy. Sox fan too.

So instead of just saying no to FA's that would help the team, what are you suggesting? What is your solution to winning the WS?

It boggles my mind why people are so eager to trade our top young stud hitters when hitting was what doomed us against the Mets. I don't understand the strategy.

The Cubs could have had Scherzer, Greinke or Price. Sadly, they hate spending money on top FAs, and don't know how to invest it properly, as evidenced by the Lester signing.

Besides, Greinke is looking for $200MM+ and I doubt he has any interest in the Cubs.

Look at the contending teams in the NL right now.

You need two Aces to get to a WS, folks. TWO!

Their next TOR pitcher will come by trade, not FA.

Shelby Miller is not a TOR

he sure would be a hell of a #3 guy behind arrieta and lester though. throw in shark and that's a very good pitching staff

I consider him a #4 .. they would need someone else to be the #3, maybe Cueto. I hate Hamels and want him gone so bad. Hendricks could be the #5 and see if he continues to improve.

Well duh, hitting wins championships.

Wait, its pitching? Pitching wins championships?

Got it, so make our pitching better and our hitting worse, when lack of hitting is what cost us against the Mets. Understood, thanks sir.
