I don't agree w mick at all about jay but were 100% on the same page w this D. Emery seriously lost me w his " d was better w Shea Bc stats told me" crap he spewed. Then he gets me sack king Houston and this new fella w what? 3 sacks playing next to arguably best dts in league.. Ohhh but he had so much pressures yada yada.

But who else would you want instead of Houston and Young? Johnson's the same boat as Houston, other than 2 seasons ago, which at this point looks like a fluke more than a constant. Bennett clearly didn't want to leave Seattle. We got the 3rd best DE in FA and picked up a good under-rated one as well. Everyone on this board knew that Peppers would be cut if he didn't take a paycut and he didn't so he's gone. What exactly would you want Emery to do to shore up the DEs? Other than Allen, who is a 32 year old player wanting 10+ mil per year, (We just gave up an over-the-hill aging DE for a butt load of money, and I don't think the Bears want to spend it on Allen), what are your suggestions for DE at the moment? Or what would you have done differently, other than not draft Shea and have gotten Jones instead.

If we could only sign one, I would choose Peanut. Dude is a plain game changer, and he is the biggest impact defensive player the Bears have had in the past 10+ years outside of Urlacher. He was missed as soon as he came out of the lineup.

With the resigning of Ratliff, I think the Bears are in a position to let Melton walk, and look to the Draft.

An avg defense gets us into the playoffs & through a rd or two. Things won't magically be fixed in 1 year, especially with what Emery had done prior to the start of FA. Be happy he's done this much & hasn't overpaid.

You are telling me that a 15th ranked defense last year doesn't net the team a division title & a win in the playoffs? They were 1 failed played away from the playoffs as is with a bottom 5 defense.

I simply don't understand your attack nor why you or anyone else for that matter would feel any differently from my original post.

Never once did I say Allen was over the hill. I said he's 32 years old wanting 10+ mil per year. I just don't want to have all the money saved from Peppers go straight to only one player when there are so many holes. Hardy will be a FA again next year, why cripple the future this year on an aging vet, when we have a chance to go grab a real potential game-changer in the future. There aren't great options now, why not go for value players for this year? Again what are the other options other than Allen that you would have done differently?
