Am slowly warming to this signing. Phil is looking for young players with serious upside. He appears to have found one at a position we desperately need.

He will be 29 at the beginning of the season. He's at his prime at that age. Very little upside from there. Don't get me wrong, I'm rooting for him to get to the QB more and still the same pace of QB hurries.

love the signing, many seem to be down on his age but also factor in that he has much less wear and tear playing limited snaps, last season was his first full season. this will be a great offseason if we can keep melton or tillman

I like this signing. Kind of reminds me of the Slauson signing. Not really a big household name, but the production is there and he's still somewhat young (28, same age as Slauson).

Damn, fuckin Windy beat me to it! This is either to replace Wootton or to provide depth behind Wootton.

We don't need depth BEHIND last year's starters. We need depth in front of them.

Agree mostly but Wootton played very well as a starter at DE in 2012. He had to play outta position damn near all year and that hurt him. That said, it's sounding like Emery expects Young to be his starter based on the teleconference.

He's listed at 6-foot-4 251-pounds, I guess we'll see how this works out. I don't understand why another team wouldn't step up and sign a pass rusher for this price if he's truly a good player.

So.....nobody we sign can be any good, because if they were, someone else would have signed them? OK

And how many of those hurries were created because Suh and Fairley were dominating inside. This is why I don't like subjective stats like hurries.

Fairley and Suh don't dominate inside nearly as much as most people believe. Especially Fairley.

wrong they are not better. Last years dline had two probowlers on it. Just dont even. So tired of the lies. The Franchise is doing it and the fans have to regurgitate it.
Oh, I see the problem, you are comparing this new line to the 2012 line that had two guys go to the pro bowl. The rest of the world is comparing next years line to the one that had Landon, I suck too much to have a nickname other than I suck too much to have a nickname, Cohen and Henry, two piece ACL, Melton at DT, and Julius, grandpa plantars faciitis Peppers and Shea, what do you mean my spin move didn't work, McClelin at DE.

And the same people were bitching about that.

exactly. houston=bushrod and young=slauson if you want to compare the way emery is dealing with the line on the other side of the ball this offseason. hopefully we can get the DT equivelant of kyle long in the draft.

Good signing. A guy who can get pressure. Now get a disruptive DT like Donald and all that pressure will equal sacks. Emery is building quality lines by bringing low cost but efficient and effective players. He did that with Bushrod, Mills, Slausen, Long last year, and he seems to be doing it this year on the other side of the ball with Houston and Young. There are a couple nice 2nd round CB's that can get some time playing opposite of Jennings.

I think we still get Tillman cheap for 2 year and I think after realizing his market as a corner, will be willing to play some safety as well.

Now if we can get a DT that can be a force in the middle, our line should at least be respectable
Since this is not a huge contract, the Bears have plenty of Money to bring back Melton.
