I like the Young signing. He has more upside / impact than Wooten, I think. Young and Houston will improve the defense considerably. And, I believe Paul Pasqualoni, Reggie Herring and Clint Hurt may be the best acquisitions in the off-season, anyway. Along with the kung-Fu master coach they hired, this coaching staff knows what they are doing. And, they don't mess around.
Regarding the signing of Young, his sack totals in 2013 might not excite Bears fans alone, but they don’t tell the whole story of how productive Young was as an edge rusher last season. He finished third in the league with 48 QB hurries, behind only Greg Hardy and Cameron Wake. Young did play on a talented defensive line so he might have faced less attention than he would on a team with less D-line talent (the Bears), but in his first year as a full-time starter he showed the ability to get to the QB.
That is a talent the Bears are lacking right now and Young's price tag was excellent. For the 2013 season he graded out almost equally against the run and pass, so he’s not just an edge rusher but a well-rounded DE, with speed, who can stay on the field all three downs. He is considered the 2nd Tier of DE prospects in the FA market, nonetheless, but you add a DT DaQuan Jones at tackle and DE's Willie Clarke (Round 3-4) or an Anthony Barr (Round 1) to the equation in the draft, and the D-line starts to takes shape. They can draft Bucannon, a safety, in the 2nd, etc..
This Young acquisition is a good pick-up. I personally wish these threads would quit being hijacked by moaners and whiners and let the Bears finished product on the defense evolve. This is day 3 of FA. Draft ahead. Cuts in June. We are better now than last year on the D-line. Go Bears.
