It's gotta be either Donald or Gilbert if he falls to 14 as far as I'm concerned, I would actually prefer Donald even if they bring back Melton. I think Donald can be every bit the impact player Tommie Harris was when healthy (who I think we also drafted at the 14th pick coincidentally)

bahahahaha

How can you make such a case to sign Allen over Houston, but not be happy that we got Houston and Young? Besides, Allen obviously wanted more money or he would have signed. How much do you want to pay a 31 DE, that apparently doesn't really want to play anymore?

there are guys going gaga over this signing, i just dont get it. i hope youre right, but cant see how this is any better than what we had. McClellin had more sacks than this guy... we still need a proven pass rusher who can take on double teams and still get to the qb

I think that the number of DEs who can take on double teams and still get to the QB are very very rare. Instead of expecting to find or deal for one of those kind of guys, I think it would be more logical to try and find three of four guys who can beat their own blockers and get into the backfield. Just like the offensive line, the defensive line needs guys who can work as a unit and defend their territory. We didn't have that last year. In my opinion, Peppers was our only good defensive lineman at the end of the year.

Umm because neither have been a solid consistent pass rusher. Dot throw me stas about pressures, numbers say they both haven't reached by 6 sacks in a season.. That sucks.

As for Allen, I'd pay a good amount and make it work. If I'm Phil and the Bears D can be decent next year with a offense that was on fire ; I expect to compete. Allen would put that D over the edge n make the presentable w qb sacks.

How does a guy like this even get a contract like this?
46 tackles and 6 sacks in a 4 yr career?
As far as him being young he was 28 last season so not really.
Man i didnbt become a bears fan yesterday like trestman, but this could be the worst pass rushing dline in all of football.

Really its about the contract not sure how its justified unless it was out of desperation. Another player with less producion than izzy who signed for basically vet minimum when he was let go.

I think the stats are hard to put a formula to. The Bears were so bad on the line last year that I think it was coaching more than players. It should improve now, even if I don't really understand why Tucker wasn't sent packing. Outside looking in.

Low risk signing, the guy seems like more of a backup/fringe starter type. Please check your expectations people. If the guy couldn't get sacks with two stud DT's getting all the attention he's not gonna do much here with our pathetic line.

Even if we draft a 1st round DE Young is a solid player. He was third in hurries last year. We need guy who can play the run and put on pressure on the QB. He will be 29 this year but he has low miles on the body.

Tremendous amount of upside here. Really, really quality pickup. Cheap signing for a player with potential. Worst case scenario, he's average and gets replaced in the next two seasons, but the homer in me sees him having some quality seasons in Chicago.
