Like religion or sports-team allegiance there is something very deeply affecting and hard-rooted about where one chooses to live. It causes arguments and often name-calling. We all want to think we've made the right choice, and when people defect from our chosen place, or don't care to love it the way we do, there can be trouble. I also think it's hard for people to imagine why anyone would leave the comforts (yes) and accessibility and cultural elements of the city. As well, urban sprawl is not the greatest human innovation. And there are of course stereotypes about people, whether city or suburbs, that lend themselves to ridicule.



I do take issue with your feelings on the suburbs versus the city. If you live in the suburbs you live close enough to the city to benefit from the city, but far enough away that perceived notions of why the city is unappealing are out of reach most of the time. I don't believe people who live in the suburbs are not suited to city living. People who live in small towns are not suited for city-living.



It might be perceived that people who live in the suburbs are mostly just trying to save a few bucks while their souls are slowly being sucked away by strip malls and Walmarts. Some people might say this. These are things that city-dwellers might think.



However, if people are not comfortable living in the city, they should leave. And if people do not want to live in the suburbs, then don't live there. I lived in a small town until I was old enough to leave and I ran out of there as fast as my legs would carry me. If we're lucky, we get to chose to live somewhere that we love and make a life somewhere that isn't super, fucking lame to us. Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Why I hate the burbs:
