The handwringing over Declan Doyle is hilarious.

I don't a crap how good of an offensive coordinator Declan Doyle is. I give a crap how good Declan Doyle is at being Ben Johnson's secretary.

The Dennis Allen hire is far more important

That’s fair I just feel that Shaw is a better secretary

Cool but we have that in Johnson I wanted a leader but who knows

I figure that Ben Johnson has a specific way in mind to develop Caleb Williams and build the offense. My assumption is that he wants a unified front so to speak with that development and that maybe some of the other more experienced options were not in alignment with him on that process and how Johnson wanted to run things.

I suppose you can't know how good Doyle would be until he gets the chance, but yeah, kind of an uninspiring hire.

Yeah I mean even Andy Reid when he left the eagles and went to the Chiefs said he is offense. That’s how it is and we got Johnson running offense and Allen running defense I’m happy. If Doyle is Johnson’s security blanket so be it

I'd like the OC and DC to be here a while and just build stability. I think Allen is going to give us a good squad and I doubt he gets another chance at HC. That's a pretty good hire. I like that he's aggressive.

Doyle? Couldn't pick him out of a lineup. But given all the fuss about having the play calling HC so that the OC doesn't get poached, my only concern is if this guy gets in the way. The guy is 28 so the only way this guy gets hired away too soon is if he is an absolute wizard of an OC. Which, hey, that would be great for us.

No one is hand wringing. We're asking the question of why a young first time head coach didn't hire someone with a longer more experienced resume to provide adequate balance to the staff.

Ok but would you name your child Declan Doyle? Lol

With the limited knowledge I have on DD here is what I like:

1. Ben picked him, I will trust him until he can't be trusted.
2. We needed an OC that doesn't want to call plays right now. Young, eager to learn, etc.
3. I keep hearing "up and comer" and "whiz kid" which I like.
4. He was a TE coach. I like THAT. We need Kmet more involved.

Yes, there were other "names" I liked more, but I'm willing to give Ben some room to pick guys here.

Also, really love the DA move. That is way more important to me.

I really don't like this one. He's 28 and didn't exactly do a great job with DEN's TE's this year. Would much rather have had Shaw or someone else with HC experience to balance out the staff. It's probably not AS big of a deal with Johnson calling plays, but still.

Dennis Allen, on the other hand, was the big hire. Huge. Glad that one has been finalized.
Given Allen has HC experience, Johnson's covered on that front.

So the yin to your yang?
I already stated this week that the Bears did the correct thing by hiring Ben Johnson and gave credit for it.

There's a lot of work for him to be successful here because I don't see the obvious evidence that everyone else seems to that this team is on the verge.

If you were not saying you wanted Declan Doyle before he was hired spare me the virtue signaling. He might be gods gift to football but none of you know shit.

I trust Ben Johnson but in the meantime I shall make fun of his stupid name.

He’s good enough that he’s worked for Sean Payton on two different teams. Johnson told anyone that was listening that he’d need a smart grinder that would be willing to work long hours. Obviously, Ben wanted him.

Do you think you know more about this than Ben Johnson and Sean Payton?
I'll gladly take any offensive mind that's worked under Sean Payton for any amount of time.
