It's ALL about connections, man.The next question is, if he's such an offensive wunderkind why hasn't he interviewed with other teams? The Bears aren't the only team with an open offensive coordinator position. But they were the only team to interview this guy. If a guy is so brilliant you'd think other teams would at least be interviewing him.
Sean Payton hired him as an O asst in N.O. and then brought him to Denver as a TE coach. Johnson may also have a connection via Dan Campbell's stint in N.O. while Doyle was there. Sean Payton has a clue and loves the guy. Being a TE coach gives him a great overview of all phases on that side of the ball.I hope so too and can learn even more as he goes. Just cause he’ll be a servant doesn’t mean he can’t learn and get better. Especially at that age. We will see.
One thing about Doyle, after being a student assistant at Iowa for 3 years and being around the program most of his life, he has absolutely learned what NOT TO DO in order to create a successful offense, because Iowa's offense is an embarrassment.I don’t believe the Bears can do no wrong. Obviously you didn’t read my very long post in saying I’m not assuming the guy is great or that it is Ben Johnson’s first choice. We didn’t get the guy from Detroit, who was the first one that Johnson interviewed and he was rumored to have been talking to David Shaw so it’s possible Shaw was his second choice and turned him down.
I don’t assume that everyone they hire is great. I don’t know anything significant about the new OC. And I said that.
But you’re doing this reverse Groucho take of “if he comes to the bears, he can’t be worth having“ and that’s just childish and fucking stupid.
And it’s just so fucking tiring that you do it in every thread on every topic every season every day.
Go back under your bridge.
Trestman was a successful OC everywhere he went, so...This new OC is shades of Trestman, here we go again.
So teams with HC as playcaller and de facto OCs fired their OCs while retaining their HC? Did you want a failed OC or expect a good one that happened to get fired with his HC to take a submissive roll here?Ummm teams fired just their offensive coordinators this off season. It doesn't have to be just the open head coaching positions that need OCs. Thanks for that though.
Well CLE just hired Tommy Rees and his vast 1 yr of experience of NFL asst coaching and HOU is looking for a playcalling OC, and is just sitting on their hands at the moment.Ummm teams fired just their offensive coordinators this off season. It doesn't have to be just the open head coaching positions that need OCs. Thanks for that though.
I think that this gets overlooked. A TE coach does not just coach the TE position. They have to also work with the OL and the Receivers. They are a hybrid of all three positions. I know most people reduce their jobs to just the position, but they are actually involved in 3 position groups. Now, with the advent of the H back replacing the traditional FB, one could argue that the TE room now has to integrate RB concepts.Sean Payton hired him as an O asst in N.O. and then brought him to Denver as a TE coach. In this situation, you roll the dice on what you believe is the next up and comer position coach with a great rep.
On the one side we have people that understand the pool of non playcalling OC candidates and aren't losing their shit about having a guy that doesn't need Prevogen and an adult diaper supply in his desk. On the other a raging asshat that whines like a beotch and when asked offers no examples of what he so desires. So on the one side we have you who believes the Bears can do no wrong and endlessly attacks me for it because you offer no separate analysis of your own. Thanks for that fun.
Yep. Of course we don't know how good he'll be but he should hit the ground running.I think that this gets overlooked. A TE coach does not just coach the TE position. So, this guy's notes to facilitate what BJ does well appears to be a good hire for what he needs. He needs to call plays and plan. He needs to grind tape and take copious notes in order to do so. He will not able to run a team and grind the way he needs to. So, this guy appears to be a good complement to what he does and needs done.
Yea, cause we’re so used to the Bears making great OC decisions. Quit screaming with ?’s…
Which jobs are you suggesting want a young OC with no playcalling experience who has only been a position coach for 2 years?Ummm teams fired just their offensive coordinators this off season. It doesn't have to be just the open head coaching positions that need OCs. Thanks for that though.
You just answered, “what is an intern”Which jobs are you suggesting want a young OC with no playcalling experience who has only been a position coach for 2 years?
This isnt hard. Johnson got a guy with HC experience for DC so likely felt he had the luxury of opting for a younger inexperienced guy at OC who isnt going to have an issue doing grunt work and working the long hours required.
Think he will have more responsibilities than an intern but will have an ambitious intern's work ethic. That is probably why he was offered and took the job.You just answered, “what is an intern”
Can't wait for CCS to fall apart when nobody has ever heard of him, and then a few hours later all of CCS loves him when tweets and articles start coming out about how he's turned some OL around and he's a great mind in football and we all love him and act like we knew him all along. So now we wait the all important offensive line coach.
