I am no doctor, and have not had time to read many articles or pages on this thread yet...but why didn't Derrick get the "snip" procedure when he had a nearly identical injury last season? I'm guessing more athleticism is lost through that procedure? It's a shame he didn't take the more effective route with repairing his body. I guess the fact that his doctor told him it may tear again was the reason he was saying all that weird stuff about "taking care of his body" this season.

By repairing it he had the chance of not having chronic knee pain later in life/career. As we all know, it is quite possible to be a very good NBA player without your meniscus. However, it does up your random knee soreness frequency. Case in point: Dwyane Wade.

Guess he might actually try to come back for the playoffs this time...maybe.
We will know more of what the team expects from him. By snipping it, I would imagine that Rose himself wants to try to come back for the playoffs. The question will mainly be then what kind of shape would he be in?

Recovery can depend on the individual but it can be anywhere from 4-12 weeks to "full" recovery.

Apparently it makes medical sense to do so as well. We'll see if he comes back for the playoffs though. Otherwise it doesn't really make a difference.

Even if he comes back, he's still a shell of his former self.

Rose IMO would benefit most by making the transition that Andre Miller made. Build his core, develop some back to the basket game, and improve his two hand release. Miller and Billups are the two guys who have done it successful in recent memory. Rose still has mad upper body speed, no reason to ignore what he would be able to do with a few fundamental changes. IF he is willing, and not going to do this whole 'my game is my game and nothing else' fit, like he did after the ACL.

But can he drop dimes like Andre?

He may also be well served by making a Ron Harper like transition from scorer to defender. He has the tools to do so, but I don't really see him doing that.

Harper was always a good defender. Rose shines defensively when he has flood movement, not as much lane movement. Maybe if he can learn to play lanes consistently and not just ideal matchups, then maybe he can make that transition.

As far as distribution. Rose has those skills, he has good vision, can be an elite passer. But for whatever reason, he doesn't play that role, the Bulls have not given him that role, and I don't think he's smart enough(at least he doesn't demonstrate it) to plan his teammates moves 4-steps ahead of his own in adjustment of the 4-moves ahead the other team may also play.
