Lol does anyone really think that Hester is even a decent receiver? He was never able to out-perform guys like Rashied Davis, Earl Bennett, Johnny Knox, and Roy Williams.

Yeah, it always annoyed me when people would speak of Knox and Hester like they were the same guy just because they were both smaller and very fast. Knox was ten times the receiver Hester was. Hester never should have been a WR in the NFL. Think about if he hadn't been a great returner. He would never have made any NFL roster as a receiver.

Seems like Hester is still mad over Cutler's comment about him when he said, "Devin is more of a go-get-it guy; he is not really a back shoulder or jump-up-and-get-it (guy)."

I loved Hester as a return guy. One of the top 3-4 most exciting Bears of all time. But Devin is not very smart and his comments prove it. I just hope for his own sake that he doesn't piss away his money when the big paychecks quit coming in as many former players have done.

I agree he needed to be worked into the offense, but never as an every down receiver. Zero talent at the position at the time kind of forced that.

Some real ******'s in here. This guy was one of the most electrifying players in modern Bears history, if not THE MOST ELECTRIFYING player. This kid deserves nothing but our respect, no matter how unsuited he is for a WR. The staff made the decision to keep Hester on the offense, not Devin Hester.
uploadfromtaptalk1441042377932.jpg Take back that most electrifying player statement, take it back, right now. (I'm trying to beat the wrestling freaks from doing it first) love him in Ballers tho. (Not as good as Playmakers was)

Damn, I miss Knox AND Hester. People were really hard on Knox here, especially Sparticles. I think Knox far overachieved what anyone thought he would, and what happened to him is a shame.

Jay probably could have communicated more and tried to do more for Devin's confidence, but no matter what, Hester just isn't a good WR that has awful hands. The whole making him into a WR in the first place, especially with the expectations to be a number 1, was completely idiotic.

Yep. I never understood why they didn't really give him a shot at corner back or at least as a nickel back. I know they gave him a look in his rookie season but then Lovie saw his speed and toughness and put him in as a wide receiver. TOugh being a starting wide receiver when you are short and don't have a good pair of hands.

We watched time and time again Hester drop passes once he was made contact with by the DB. He was never a good receiver, could run routes get open, ect... But he'd never make his money off of catching the ball.

Is this a Cutler bash thing? Was it his job to get Hester ready to play?

You're missing the point. The QB is supposed to be a leader of men and the offense, so yes to a certain extent it IS Cutler's job to help the teammates around him all get on the same page.

A good leader doesn't act like a fucking child and give his team mates the silent treatment and refuse to throw them the ball. It's just yet another example highlighting Cutler's complete lack of intangibles that other good QB's have... Instead of acting like an grown up adult and working productively with team mates and coaches he pouts and sulks and gets up and walks away like he did to Tice or refuses to throw to them like Hester.

Yup, what a leader that Cutler is... Surely the type of guy people will want to give 110% for.

Unfortunately the cover2 defense wants good tackling physical CB's that can press coverage. Hester was never gonna ever get a shot in Lovie's system. I agree nicle back could work.

Hester Bailing out Jay on a bad throw...

When people stretch the truth to try and make a point it makes them look stupid.

Case in point. That catch is standard fare in the NFL. Hester catches it with an in stride jump. Actually it was a perfect throw over 2 defenders to the back corner. If he can't make that catch he isn't even a 4th receiver in the NFL.
There is plenty to pick on JC about but that throw is not one of them.

It was a shame, and I'm glad the Bears did right by him and kept him on the team on IR in 2012. It was his fourth season and allowed him to become fully vested in the league pension scheme. That was a cool move by them.

Spartan was a Knox homer though.

LOL no. Lovie didn't move him because he saw his speed and toughness and thought he would make a good receiver. He was moved to WR because he was so awful at DB, but so valuable on ST that they had to find a position for him. They figured they'd make the most of him by getting the ball in his hands and making him a weapon. If he was remotely decent as a DB he would never have been moved to offense.

"It's worth noting that Hester's two most successful years as a receiver came with Cutler in 2008 and 2009. In each year, Cutler targeted him 91 times."

Today's quiz question....

What year did Devin Hester play for the Broncos?

I thought Hester was a garbage WR and laughable a best when Lovie/Angelo determined he was worthy of being the teams #WR.

WRONG. It was ANGELO who gave him that big contract. Once you do that, you kind of HAVE to put him somewhere on the field outside of returning to justify the money spent. Lovie was indirectly FORCED into that position...

But the thing is, it is completely erroneous. Cutler targeted him 91 times in his first season with the Bears and 73 the next. At some point he may have given up on him as he demonstrated the inability to read defenses and run the proper routes and he may have just shut him out.

If he continues to get nearly hit in the back of the head with passes from Matt Ryan, I imagine the sideline teaching will diminish.

I think at FS he may have contributed in a deep middle or cover 3 deep middle type of defense. He can for sure cover ground.

LOL I love how no one seems to bother fact checking themselves before they spout off...

Fact is Hester is the Bears #20 all time leading WR ahead of every single guy you mentioned.

Rashied Davis(#63), Earl Bennett (#25), Johhny Knox (#28), Roy Williams (#106) and also Bernard Berrian (#29) and Mushin Mohammed (#30).

I really don't understand the hate Hester gets on here. Like it's somehow his fault this franchise is so dumb they attempted to convert him to a position he had no business playing in the first place. They should of just left him to return kicks and let him develop as a CB like he originally wanted to be. He could of developed into a decent nickle or dime back playing spot duty and nobody would be complaining.

It's just odd to see how much shit he gets like the Bears are some historic WR factory or something and Hester was some total bum. No the real joke here is that the Bears all time leading WR's are 2 guys from the fucking 1950s and the #3 all time is a fucking RB and #4 is a TE.
