Sorry if already posted but Michael C Wright is reporting talks are ongoing.

There’s mutual interest between the Bears and linebacker D.J. Williams in working out a new deal, tweets Michael C. Wright of ESPN. The two sides are talking and that’s expected to continue through the weekend. The former University of Miami standout spent his whole career in Denver up until 2013 when he joined Chicago. Unfortunately, his season ended when he ruptured his pectoral tendon against the Giants in Week 6.

Can't go big-ticket FA at every position. DJ will most likely be on a vet-min contract.

So will he backup Shea? I am confused..

But seriously, this would be a good add.

Think your thread title is misleading. I read that and think the deal is about done. All MCW said was there is mutual interest and they're going to keep talking.

Hopefully he stays healthy if he's healthy for a full training camp and season he will be a nice upgrade.

No, not really. Just another aging, extremely stupid athlete who's made all the wrong choices. I don't think he's managed a full season's worth of play in 3 or 4 years either.

If DJ Williams starts at MLB and Jonathan Bostic starts at SLB, I think Shea McClellin will be cut eotjer during the final pre season cuts or after the 2014 season.

Hopefully Shea nay nay wins the starting job, whether it's MLB or SLB

So if Shea doesn't win the starting job he'll be cut?

Yeah, who needs backups?

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago White Sox
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Miami Hurricanes
  2. Northern Illinois Huskies
Hopefully he can stay healthy. Shouldn't cost us much and bringing him back will plug a hole in our defense. Now we won't have to address this in the draft.

I don't remember telling you to state your opinion

I hope he comes back and plays a season.

We need to address linebacker, but not this offseason. We have enough on our plate. Do enough to field a subpar crew there while bolstering the front and back ends. Seal the middle and the edge next year.

I thought he was playing pretty well before the injury and was doing well blitzing.

He was our best blitzing defensive player in those first few games.

I also thought he was improving each week in the run game as well and there was a huge drop off after he got injured. I hate to use stats as a source but they will show he made a difference when he was healthy.

The run defense went downhill quickly after he got injured...but melton and collins were lost at that point too. Brandon Jacobs was having a great game against the D.
The run D would have been better with him in there but it would have been a bad defense regardless at that point.

No, but I don't know why the Bears are resigning this bum either. DJ Williams is garbage, period, & yes he sucked before he was hurt too. I really think the Bears should have made a very wise choice to look at D. Jackson before the Colts signed him. So far it just looks like the same DC & crappy defenders being brought back that sucked horribly last year.
