Not everyone has the same experience blazing across the Oregon Trail as you do.

I loved that game as a kid.

Love flying, hate the experience of checking in. I lost count a long time ago on how many flights I've been on. And no close calls, only turbulence in a small plane and jumping out planes on purpose.

No, but a good friend of mine in high school lost her mom to a plane crash.

My uncle lost his mom on that flight out of o'hare that crashed in indiana in the 70s. My dad is a private pilot and his engines stalled over the gulf of mexico. The plane dropped from 30,000 to 5,000 feet before he got them started again. Now his new wife refuses to fly with him lol

Lol does he fly for celebs n shit?

That ohare crash was horrible. It wasn't in Indiana though, if you are talking about the one that had engine failure and literally did a free fall right after it got on aid. My dads friend lost his wife in that one, too.

I can only imagine how terrifying those last fleeting seconds can be knowing you are going to die and there is nothing that can be done..

I read on the German wings fight, the passengers knew they were about to die.. So fucked up and angering that pussy took innocent people and infants with him. Would love to get w time machine and find that prick

No by private pilot i meant he flew his own plane. He got to write it off because he did work with the faa. The indiana plane crash out of o'hare was different from the one that crashed just outside ohare.

That german guys medical records wouldn't have been off limits in the us for whatever that's worth. Most majors have no qualms grounding pilots if there is the slightest whiff of a physical or mental problem

1) I landed in a KC-10 with the refueling boom fully extended. Huge fireball out the back of the plane all the way down the runway with firetrucks in hot pursuit. We evacuated using a mobile stair trunk and ran away as soon as the plane stopped. The Back of the plane was charred and the boom was a twisted piece of metal

2) Had a 777 engine seize on take off right at the point of no return on the runway. BOOM, FIRE, SMOKE. We were bussed back to the terminal.

3) 676 flaps stuck in the up position. Emergency services were alerted because they thought the pilot would have too land too fast and run out of runway or heat the brakes to the point of explosion. (Dude landed like a BOSS, used every inch of white painted runway from one end to the other, and everything worked out fine. Emergency service trucks returned to their homes unused.

All three times we were told to put our heads between our legs thus assuming the crash position. The 2) time the crew yelled it as a reflex when the BOOM happened.

Other than that I have flown 100s of times with nothing happening :smug2:

Similar to others, I used to love flying, then went through a period where I was terrified almost the whole time. I got through that and am much better. I fly on about 10 planes a month so it is good that I got that over with. I would just get panicked that if I died, I would be leaving my family alone. Now I am fully accepting of that fact. I always make sure to thank the pilots directly if they are available after the flight. My brother is an amateur pilot. My father in law is a retired military and commercial pilot. I have flown bush planes in Australia and in Alaska. Those are the particularly scary ones. We even had Wild Bill in Alaska as our pilot one summer. He was supposed to come pick up our gear and he crashed in Denali the week prior.

I have had several helicopter pilots as well. That is even more scary. Flying in a helicopter never gets old, but man is it dangerous. Especially when we are landing in swamps just big enough for the helicopter up to 10 times a day. Sometimes he couldn't even set down and I would have to climb up the skid with 50 pounds of samples in my pack and a shotgun in one hand. I wouldn't do that with just any pilot though. I worked with that guy for years.

My scariest flying moment though was flying into Denver. As we were about to touchdown, the plane starting crabbing and one wing dipped and almost hit the ground. The pilot gunned it and we almost went straight up. We circled back around and landed no problem. But people were throwing up and the flight attendants were crying. Crazy. It is also scary flying in extremely religious countries. Many of them think "oh well, if something happens, it was gods doing" and don't necessarily try to avert disaster.

I was just at the Rocky Mountain Airshow yesterday and today watching the Air Force Thunderbirds perform. That was awesome. I will post some photos once I sort through them. My wife took 250 photos so there should be some good ones.
