Brett Jackson should try to stop striking out all the time.

I understand why and i agree with it. Just hard watching this team not scoring while a guy like Rizzo is just crushing ball in AAA

It has nothing to do with production and everything to do when the next window of competiveness window will open for the Cubs.

The Cubs are saying that they aren't basing it on service time, but I think that's mostly fluff. That is at least one of the factors in their decision even if it's not the top factor.

They should just call him up. Who cares about the service time, by then he'll probably have a long-term contract is he's doing what he's doing in the minors.

Well yeah, what else are they going to say? Their not going to come out and say; "we are not calling Rizzo up do to service time". That would sound very bad and cheap... also that the Cubs don't care about winning games.

The Cubs are currently the worst team in the majors  I don't think winning games was in the cards for this club this season.

Which is exactly why it is pointless to call him up at this time. Wait until we get the extra year before free agency and then call him up in this lost season.

Ya, when they are speaking misspellings somehow they would look dumb.

No team has infinite financial resources. All teams do this and all teams say they don't do it. This is a non-story to say the least.

i dont care if they do it. Just stop lying to us. sorry but 1 player doesnt mean infinite financial resources. I also agree with Waldo. If he going to be as good as they hope/think then he will have a extension before he ever hits FA. Cubs are suppose to be big market so if they somehow actually develope a stud then they will be able to pay him

They don't have to tell you anything you don't need to know, and whatever they tell you comes with the caveat that you have to read between the lines. Business in baseball is pretty transparent, and service time is a true consideration that is important to consider no matter what market you're in.

But why should they pay an extra year for Rizzo just so he is here a few weeks sooner in a season that is going to end exactly the same whether he was here or not? And every team keeps their guys down for service time and they all say it isn't due to that. Part of that is to keep them out of trouble with the union, which I still maintain has very little leverage in the situation but I am guessing directly saying it would give them some leverage, and part of it is what Rice said.
