Putin's won twelve Cups. I don't mind him pulling the strings.

I don't mind it either - I'm just saying who the 'real' GM is of this team. One's a figurehead, the other is the one making the decisions.

I think you are reaching there, Fluffy. Does Scotty have input along with the rest of the staff, sure, but I have no doubt that Stan makes the final decisions on things. To call Stan a "figurehead" is just silly. I am sure it's much more gratifying for a father to see his own son make it on his own than to having to lead him all the way.

WTF? Common sense----there is not one NHL GM who doesn't readily and openly admit that they are absolutely dependent on their scouts from different regions and advisers. That they are their lifelines when it comes to drafting, trading, and tracking development. They can not logically see and follow every single prospect while also running their big clubs which is why they have their teams bring people to their attention and point out the facets both positive and negative to their games, and offer advice about whether they could fit into the system down the road. I have ZERO fucking idea why you are trying to paint the fact that Scotty Bowman as Senior Advisor would actually proffer advice as some sort of "Gotcha!" moment.

If anything, it shows how smart scooter is to put some pretty good hockey minds around him. Cheveldayoff was obviously pretty good....the scouting team - Kelly was huge in PITT first and Bergevin is one of the better behind the scenes people (and hilarious..and I'd bet he plays a role with the guys in the locker room from time to time)...and yes, Scotty.

You would be incorrect fluff. Assumption is the root of all evil. Scotty is in Florida most of the time. Stan is running the team but you bet your ass EVERY decision is run accross the desk of the true leader and it isn't Scotty.

Nice analogy of Putin though.

I don't agree at all. You can't overlook Scotty and all his championships, and if you're Stan, and Scotty is your father, you run the big deals by him - especially when it involves big names leaving your club. It's not like they traded Jake Dowell or something. You give up Campbell - that's big. Scotty okays it to Stan or that doesn't go through. And yes, of course McD has the final signoff.

Scooter didn't put those people around him. The donut did.

The fact alone that I gave the donut credit for anything should tell you that it's true. LOL

Any news on QO's that are supposed to be delivered today? I guess most of the important players are getting QO's (Frolik, Campoli, Stålberg...?)

If Stan was consulting with daddy during the draft, it wasn't at the draft table.

I was there in person sitting just one section away from the Hawks table and on draft night Stan was his own man. It's not to say they didn't discuss things prior to their 5 pm arrival time (doors opened at 4 and we were there). Love the pick at 18; not a big fan of the pick at 26. Other players we (well not me my GM son) had ranked much higher were still available. We wanted the kid the Canadians took at 17; that was a bummer. My first draft live and must say it is a blast watching the inner workings of the GM's that you don't see on TV. Doug Wilson spent the entire Friday night trying to work a deal. Gillis of Vancouver tried to work something out with and Wilson and his face said it all and I swore he said, "really, are you kidding me?" with a face that said Go FY. I highly recommend attending a draft in person if you ever get the chance. And find an 11 year old who thinks he knows everything about the first 90 players to be selected. That makes it a blast.

And finally my condolences to the Tbird family as I found out from Icehogsfan while sitting in OHare waiting on our flight to St Paul. I'm sorry I couldn't attend the memorial but heard it was a terrific send off.

My comment was more tongue in cheek as it should not be a shock that the two, along with the scouting team and other advisers, are going to discuss potential picks and ordering. A good team will have a plan in place before even entering the building.

Yea I went to the draft several years ago just for the heck of it, and found it surprisingly interesting.

we're keeping Stalberg? Ugh! Frolik yes, and Campoli I'm still ticked at for handing Burrows the game winner in game 7.

I run big (and small) things through my boss, subordinates, peers, and friends in the same line of work as me all the time. I do that to get perspective on whatever and to help shore up my decision. But ultimately it is my decision. Smart leaders do these types of things. Sure there might be some influence, but those that have been around the block usually find the gotcha's quicker than most....something about experience....but that also does not immediately infer that they are driving the decision.
