...Campbell deal... Getting someone to eat that contract is worth getting barely anything in return, though I was really hoping to get Reinprecht out of it. And kudos to Campbell for waving the NTC to go to Florida!

Call me crazy for it, but it needed to be done. Sure the production will be very missed...

What "production"? 5G 22A...meh....

I think Olesz is on IR and therefor not eligible to be bought out and by the time he could be activated the buyout window would have closed. Looks like they could be stuck with him for a year at least.

Looking at Olesz stats, what on earth gave them the idea that he would be worth the money that they threw at him. 6 year contract worth almost $19M, WTF?!

That's correct and it's said he won't be cleared to play until early Sept, past the buyout deadline. They could how ever ship him to Rockford where he could be grabbed but more likely recall him back, where the Hawks would eat half the salary for the next 3 years. Basically gaining another 1.5 mil in Cap space.

They aren't totally screwed with him if he choses to be a douchebag and not play up to the expected level.

As for the last paragraph they also gave him a NTC that comes into effect July 1st. That's worse than ANY contract Dale doled out.

Really not to keen on Olesz, take what we can get to open up the cap space though. Would love to see a move for guys who understand playoff hockey, playing two ways, basically molds of Bolland. Most guys from the OHL seem to get that. Tallon has a thing for the OHL and I agree with him, if I were an NHL GM I would have a roster full of WHL and OHL guys, think I'd fair pretty well too.

Gonna be very interesting who we grab with this dough.

Also is Lalonde still a year away?

Obviously, the Campbell deal creates some much-needed flexibility, but if analyzed as hockey trade it has to be considered a disaster. After he toned down the flair a bit, Soup became a very dependable two-way defenseman for the Hawks. His 23 minutes a night will be tough to replace.

Meanwhile, all goals Olesz scores will be a bonus. As strange as it sounds, Olesz might just be more overpaid than Campbell despite making $4 million less a year...

Given that the panthers had no big names on their roster, I'm sure they overpaid a few guys to hit cap floor. I will wait and see on Olesz. I won't judge his performance in FLA because well again the entire roster sucks ass. Hard to put up numbers when the guy you are passing to fucks up or is passing to you fucks up. Goals and Assists are player stats but don't just happen because of that player, the team helps those numbers.

I wonder what Tallon said to Campbell to convince him to waive his NTC? Tallon sure helped out his old team with this one.

Campbell will be missed. Hockeywise this is an awful trade, but capwise it had to be done. Campbell was going to be continually shit on with that horrible contract, but he was in fact a very good and solid d-man and is a top-pairing d-man on most other teams. While the Hawks have a player with similar speed and puck carrying skills in Leddy and perhaps Campoli, they lack that minute-eating capability Campbell offered. I wonder if Bowman is looking to re-tool the D-core a little bit with adding a UFA.

I'll probably get flamed for this but if Wiz would come back for 2.5 I'd take him. Maybe a little more. He add grit, skill, two way defensive play, and character.

Would he take a pay cut for a chance to be back here and play for a Cup? I think Leddy can take a lot of the TOI, and between him and Campoli can compare in the production department. Now they need Grit.

Very soft defense as is stood, is still just as soft.

I'm also not sure what would stop them from sending this guy to Rockford and using the entire 3 mil as more cap space. Rocky's already eating 5 mil on Huet, whats another 3 for a Billionare! I mean hell they raised Season tickets 15-80% again.

I've been saying that since he left.

At the time he left fluff his "grit" was not so much needed. This team was full of it.

You had plenty then, burrish, Eager, Buff, Ladd..........ect ect ect...

I seriously doubt Wiz will be back. Just as I seriously doubt we'll see Richards as these moves just make no sense financially. Trick is to use the 14 mil wisely. Not strap them all over again.

So at the time you said it, Wiz was not so important Fluff. They won the Cup without him.

IMO Wiz is overpaid now... loved him on the Hawks and will never forget when he kicked the shit out of Tootoo even though he fucked his knee up in the process.

The Campbell trade feels like pay back for the deadline trade that got us a pick, Frolik and Salaak, as well as a salary dump. I look at it like one big 2 part trade that unloaded Skille, Potulney, and Campbell's contract and got us Frolik, Salaak and Oleacs bad contract back. I'm still amazed Stan was able to move Campbell's contract.

As for UFA centers give me one of;

Reasoner

Madden

Handzus

Add a 6th D-man or maybe slot someone on the Hogs for that role (Staton?) I like the idea of Gilroy as well depending on the salary.

Add some grit to the 3rd/4th line. Grabbing Ladd back from the Jets would be awesome.

Yup... I wanted him via trade... but now that the Rangers didn't even qualify him, I'm sure we could get him at a discount.

Bring back Ladd and the 3rd/2nd line gets some grit. Hell since he was given the C in ATL and put up decent numbers, maybe 1st line duty with Toews and Kane? Give them some physicallity on the 1st line. Oh and if we get either Buff or Ladd back, does Loungo retire out of frustration?

Yeah what's the deal with him? Has he been signed? Is he a RFA? I would think he would be one of the players the Hawks should be front and center in pursuing if they are looking to add "grinders". Ladd was a player that could do pretty much anything. He could play checking line, he could play Top 6. Extremely versatile. I just don't want to see them try to pull another "Kopecky". That guy is what he is, 3rd/4th line. Nothing wrong with that at all, but don't try to play him as something he's not.

I'd love Ladd back, but I seriosly doubt thats happening either. I suppose stranger things have happened.

I don't know what would be needed to go to the 'peg to get Ladd and how much is he expecting to get. He's that sort of guy the Hawks would need. Any UFA's that could bring a similar game at the right price.

For the bottom center position I'd look at a guy like Reasoner before someone like Madden or Konopka.

You just said in the other thread that Madden is old and Drury is broken... why would you want Konopka over Drury?
