Actually Smith opted out because he can sign with the Knicks for more by opting out and re-signing with them. Most people think it's a foregone conclusion he ends up back in New York.

I know I was trolling  who did the Knicks draft this year?

Some stiff from over in Greece I think. A draft and stash player similar to what the Bulls are doing with Mirotic. Won't be over for a few seasons.

That was their only pick? I thout they had another because that's the pick I remembered. They must've traded it away

Nope. They only had one.

Their first rounder was Houston's from the Jordan Hill trade.

how the hell would they even be able to do that? Unless they give Humphries a huge deal [which ORL then wouldn't want.. unless they found a third team to take Kris], I don't know how Brooklyn can take back 30 million dollars while already having JJ, Wallace and needing to re-sign D will.

But New York is losing JR. smith to FA. They're gonna suck now.

:troll:

Really though youre right. The Knicks are going to suprise a lot of people this year.

And they may lose Jeremy Lin. I believe it too that they will surprise many people by not making the playoffs.

The NBA salary cap is really odd and is the most confusing in professional sports.

I actually just found out that the Nets have a 3 million dollar trade exception.

So even after signing D.Will [assuming his first year is worth 15-16 million], they can trade for Hedo and give back no salary in return. At that point, they'd be meeting the cap, but trading Brooks, Lopez and Humphries[he would have to get a big deal] could match Howard's contract.

Or, instead of taking Hedo, the NEts can take Jason and Q Richardson and give Humphries 3 million less. The Magic would still save a ton of money by trading JR and QR. Or you can take out JR and replace him with Glen Davis.

Can't wait to see how this turns out

Howard Beck: Nets are using midlevel exception to sign Teletovic to 3-yr deal. Means: 1. they cannot go over $74 mil payroll. 2. Can't use MLE for Kidd Twitter

anyone good with the financial side of this know how this would effect the luxury tax situation?

If the Nets end up going 1-5 million dollars over the luxury tax, they'll pay $1.50 for every dollar they are over. If they are 5-10 million over the luxury tax, they will pay $1.75 for every dollar they are over. If they are 10-15 million over the tax, they'll pay $2.50 for ever dollar they are over. Anything over 15 million dollars over the tax, they'll pay $3.25 fr every dollar.

Considering the Nets owner is one of the richest guys in the world, I don't think he cares.

The Bulls are fucked. It's time to tank next year and re-tool.

Three year plan.

I thought they would only be fucked for the next 2 years. Now it looks like it will be until the foreseeable future.

The Bulls have been behind in the sea change of the NBA arguably since The Decision. It's only gotten worse from there.

As of right now the Bulls need to hope for one of the following:

1. That Bobcats pick in a few years is a top of the lottery pick once it's unprotected.

2. They get a big time free agent to town. Even though I don't see anyone coming up that would opt out.

3. Both 1 and 2.

The Bulls are in 3-4 see hell now in the East. Good enough to keep fucking themselves out of high draft picks that could be franchise changing but at the same time likely not a real contender for the Finals. They will be a fun team to watch play but in the end everyone knows the payout will fall short.

The Bulls need to do a couple of things right now in my opinion.

A) Trade Taj Gibson for a couple of players with no more than 2 years on their contract (preferably rookie contracts) and a draft pick.

B) If they pick-up Watson/Korver/Brewer's options, make sure they will all expire at the same time that the players in scenario "A" will expire.

C) DO NOT match the offer for Asik.

D) Have Deng get the surgery as soon as the Olympics end and he will miss most of the regular season.

E) Amnesty Boozer right now if this is their last year to do so. If not then amnesty him when all of those other contracts expire.

The Bulls wouldn't come close to making the playoffs next season.

In the summer of 2014, the Bulls would only have Rose, Noah, and Mirotic on contract.

Hopefully the draft pick for Taj, the 2013 pick for tanking the '13 season, the Charlotte pick, Jimmy Butler, and Marquis Teague will have panned out as well. Then the Bulls could perhaps re-sign Deng (or trade him by the end of his deal) and also sign a Even Turner/Paul George-caliber SG.
