Well, you do have to worry about other teams **** blocking your potential moves. Look at the whole Brooklyn/Houston/Orlando/Atlanta cluster ****. Houston acquired all those assets and have virtually no shot to get Howard or Willams. Everyone figured Brooklyn had no shot, and now it looks like they're primed to get a core of Johnson/Williams/Howard.

Atlanta also got rid of Johnson's albatross deal and Marvin Williams turd of a deal and primed themselves to have two guys under contract going into 2014. I'd say that's quite savvy. And you know how they did it? By paying attention to what other squads are doing.

If something presents itself as an option prior to the summer of 2014 then you improve. Other than that, stick to the basic plan.

But what's the basic plan? Rose, Deng, Boozer and Noah? Meh.....

If the Nets get Howard and Deron and the Heat get Ray Allen the Bulls will be a team like Atlanta or Indiana for the next 6 years at least. A playoff team with no hope to make the ECF. Possible ways to avoid this:

1)Getting Howard
2)Getting Love
3)Drafting a Lebron/Durant/Howard level superstar in the future.

1)Sign Deron, trade Rose for Howard and sign him for the next 6 years, keep a good supporting cast and trade everybody else for picks. :lmao:
2)Give everything you have except Rose for the future GOAT PF.
3)Trade all the team except Rose for possible high picks of the year this player will be drafted and tank the previous year.

Rose,Noah,Mirotic and the Charlotte's 2016 unprotected pick. That's the basic plan. It's not rocket science. The Bulls plan is this and they have this in their mind from the day they drafted Rose.

Howard isn't coming here. There's been no evidence that the Wolves have even a 0.0001% interest in dealing Kevin Love, and the whole "draft" angle is a crap shoot. Also -- Williams and Howard, once again, have no interest in coming to Chicago, so why would we trade Rose, the only guy outside of Noah who wants to be here?

Uh.... Mirotic and the Charlotte pick weren't ours when we drafted Rose in 2008.

You have to try. They may change their opinion. Otherwise you stop crying like a baby and accept your team as it is.

Yes. It usually goes that way. First you get the guy you will built around him, then you make the plan and then you get the pieces you want to make this happen.

The Bulls "long term" plan is this. Boozer was a shot at the short term success.

Exactly. But I think ignoring the reality that they would/can be competition is kind of what got the Bulls fan base in the trouble it's been in. After Miami pulled off what they did the Bulls tried to narrow the focus and act as though Miami was this rare event and the Bulls will be fine "bench mob" "depth" and all the other BS that came out. Whatever. Miami wasn't this rare event.
i don't get how miami is a rare event when miami has not only been a precedent for teams like the knicks, nets, and clippers

but it followed a similar blueprint to the celtics

i think it's just chicago fans being in denial that these star-based teams are the trend now(not sure how much the luxury tax might affect it though, that could be considered, but it's all about managing the money)

i'm not disagreeing the teams could/will be competition

but i think they could be helpers in another step of the process

I think, ideally, you try to build around rose(meaning every contract is essentially expendable and could be departed with if convenient)

expiring contracts like deng and boozer are assets that could be packaged

first step is letting omer go....the bulls dont need to commit that much money to a crappy center when it could be used for much more important and less expendable purposes

if there's one guy you keep out of deng, boozer, and noah..it's probably noah

he's the youngest, has still a ceiling to reach,a good playmaker, and a good base down low defensively

and while his contract is cuffing(meaning holds the bulls back a little financially), comparatively it is close to market value

plus,noah's contract doesn't end until 2016(i think..not sure)

i think noah is certainly expendable, but i think there's an argument that he could be kept as the team's center

mirotic could fill in the 4...so,really, i think the bulls could go look to build on the wings

meaning, the bulls could use deng and boozer's contract to make trades to clear cap space or get a good player/asset

clearing cap space could help the bulls with potential high-end FAs, or if they trade for assets they could make another trade to get a high-end FA, or they could use the packaged contract to directly get a high-end FAs

alot of options

i think the bulls could look to get a guy like rudy ***,granger, or even melo in 2014 by becoming an attractive team through an option i listed

i think then if you have the SF covered, you could look to use boozer's expiring contract to try to get a solid 2,among other things

i'm a little vague with this plan, because the plan itself has to be vague

the context comes the situation...so maybe boozer's contract is gone before deng's..who knows

whatever's convenient

Before Miami it was Boston, after Miami it was the Knicks, after the Knicks it was the Clippers(and nearly the Lakers), after the Clippers it was the Nets and on and on and on. Burying your head in the sand and ignoring where other teams are possibly heading and what they are aiming to do is pretty effing stupid. You can't view the Bulls re-tool through a prism of just them. You have to try and evaluate and take the entire league into account. To not do so is being willfully ignorant to reality.

no...i think you are right on the principle, that the bulls have been looking to build around rose since he was drafted(hello, he's the first pick, that's what you're supposed to do with a top pick)

but the mirotic and charlotte pick were unknowns that were not considered at part of the basic planning in 2008

at that time,i would say the bulls were looking to build around rose, but nothing was really distinct

Agreed to a deal on July 1. Can't become official until July 12. I can't imagine them being able to pull the offer.

PG: Deron Williams
SG: Joe Johnson
SF: Gerald Wallace
PF: ?
C: Dwight Howard

With those four, you could start Bobby Hurley at PF and still dominate.

Yeah ok. I don't know when they decided it but this is the plan. Rose,Noah,Mirotic,2016 unprotected pick and Boozer's expiring contract for a solid player for the remaining position.

completely depends on what is convenient

a player like noah or boozer could get seriously hurt, which could steer the course of the plan a bit...that's certainly one factor

the bulls get involved in trade talks quite a bit...trades(more than one) shouldn't be ignored if they make sense...

ideally, you want deng and boozer's contracts as assets later on, but the plan is more of a suggestion rather than a rigid guideline

you have to have backups and be able to adjust accordingly and have flexibility with the plan, otherwise you end up falling on your face

that could be argued to be the base

but there are so many variables to consider, particularly with noah

he could easily be traded as early as this year

you plan to use boozer's contract as an asset as well as dengs

that doesn't even mean a direct trade to get the player you want..but assessing the options and using the assets when convenient

Noah won't be traded for something less than a plan changing superstar. Book it. Noah should have, could have blah blah blah. Nothing happened. All I see is the front office not wanting to trade him for something less than a superstar. Mirotic too. And the Charlotte's pick too. That shows me that they have a plan based on these pieces.

Also Boozer's contract expires just in time Mirotic will be available. Noah and Rose have the longest contracts. These two players are in the Bulls future plans. Deng isn't. Also Noah has a lot of things he can improve. Deng? I don't thing so. He will be traded this year or next year for a 2016 first round pick. lol

i wouldn't, the bulls are always in talks, especially with noah

noah is a valuable asset

the bolded is the problem with your last sentence

maybe the FO didn't find the right trade...who knows?

Mirotic too. And the Charlotte's pick too. That shows me that they have a plan based on these pieces.
maybe they're considering a plan like that...

but maybe they don't see a good trade that would involve that package

my question to you is..has there been any direct implication(not a conjecture through lack of action) that noah, mirotic, and the pick are not expendable?

i don't believe there has...

maybe mirotic....but then again, has a team actually expressed interest in mirotic?

Yes. Pax has said it a million times that Mirotic, the Charlotte's pick and Noah will be traded only for a superstar. And he is always talking about a "long term plan".

A. You could have said this a bit before, and saved yourself the trouble of trying to make conjectures

B. I never said they don't have a plan, but i don't think a lack of moves on the bull's part regarding certain pieces is really indicative of anything

i mean, deng hasn't been moved either? From that logic, maybe he is part of the bull's plan too?
