It'll be such a Bears move to not only bring him back, but also draft a QB early while Eberflus and his staff are on an extremely short least.
They'll then fire the staff, bring in a new one, stunting that QBs growth.
Eventually, since the QB had not chance to be properly developed, the new staff will want their own guy and the cycle will repeated.
A coach getting fired a year after a rookie QB getting drafted, and said QB getting a new HC in year 2, isn't always a bad thing. Sometimes I think the importance is overblown.
Jeff Fisher was there when Goff was drafted. Got fired, an McVay got hired. Goff got better.
Urban Meyer was there when Lawrence was drafted. He got fired, and Doug Peterson got hired. Lawrence got better.
I can't remember the name of the Chargers coach when Herbert was drafted.... but he got fired, and they hired another shitty coach in Brandon Staley, and Herbert was still good.
In general, there are plenty of good QBs who go through a coaching change, and still succeed despite having a HC who wasn't there when they were drafted.
And there are a bunch of rookie head coaches who bring in "their" guy, only for the QB to still suck, and then it costs both of them their jobs.
This isn't a post advocating for the retention of Flus... But if he were to stick around and we draft a QB and Flus gets fired a year later, we'd still be fine as long as the guy we draft is worth a shit.
