A coach getting fired a year after a rookie QB getting drafted, and said QB getting a new HC in year 2, isn't always a bad thing. Sometimes I think the importance is overblown.

Jeff Fisher was there when Goff was drafted. Got fired, an McVay got hired. Goff got better.

Urban Meyer was there when Lawrence was drafted. He got fired, and Doug Peterson got hired. Lawrence got better.

I can't remember the name of the Chargers coach when Herbert was drafted.... but he got fired, and they hired another shitty coach in Brandon Staley, and Herbert was still good.

In general, there are plenty of good QBs who go through a coaching change, and still succeed despite having a HC who wasn't there when they were drafted.

And there are a bunch of rookie head coaches who bring in "their" guy, only for the QB to still suck, and then it costs both of them their jobs.

This isn't a post advocating for the retention of Flus... But if he were to stick around and we draft a QB and Flus gets fired a year later, we'd still be fine as long as the guy we draft is worth a shit.
The Charger HC was Anthony Lynn.

Yep.

I can't stand him as HC, but I also admit his defense is a year behind on this rebuild while the Bears tried to build around a quarterback for a change.

If he can win at least six of these last ten, that would be 8 wins in the final 12 game stretch, you can sell me on giving Eberflus another shot. Especially if the defense swings up.

I'd still appreciate a better OC. Maybe the Pack fire Lafleur and Getsy can just be demoted back to QB coach.
Keep Flus as the DC and get a real HC next year regardless of what happens rest of the year.

Not me, I've seen enough of Flus. I didn't like the hire when it happened.

I was firmly in Camp Caldwell, so I am thinking the same as you. I just think eight wins is enough to at least be a conversation.

Right now firing Eberflus seems like a no brainer.

OMG no!

Fire everyone if you are getting a new HC.

Keep Ryan Poles only if that decision was made by Kevin Warren, not George McCaskey.

Eberflus is tied to Fields. No way they give him a new QB. I guess you can say Bagent as well. Hopefully that has already been made clear to him. Bottom line only way he survives is the team gets close to the playoffs and the QB play is good enough to sell to the fans they need another year.

If the team needs to draft a QB they have to bring in a new staff. For once align everything up please.

I think now that he has a legitimate quarterback and not a glorified kick returner back there trying to read coverages - we’re starting to see the Ws stack up. Bagent’s ability to elevate not only the players around him but even the coaches may be the saving grace for this staff.

It's a pretty bold assumption to think they get to 5 wins. Hopefully Warren steps in and starts showing why he was hired. Even in the two games the Bears won, I don't think the coaching had as much to do with it as the opponents they played
Bold?

They have 2 already
They play az and Carolina who are substantially worse

That leave 8 other games to win 1 which equals 5 on the year......I'd say 5 is a pretty achievable number

You bring up a good point actually. You’re right that by the time he’s ready to come back it may be good to put him back in as the starter to secure losses and a better draft position. The danger with having Bagent start is winning a lot of games that will push back towards the middle of the draft. Wouldn’t be opposed to this approach.

JF just needs help from the defense. JF has been trending up the last yrs. without Qb development and without
an OC who plays to his strengths. This past Sun was one of the few times the defense has played with any heart

Help from the defense? You mean like, have a defensive player on the sidelines with an airhorn that they can blow to signal to Justin to throw the ball to the open guy he's staring at?

I can’t be the only one getting the feeling that Eberflus will probably stick around next year. It just seems like a McCaskey move. Improving from 3 wins to 5 wins will make those morons think the team is headed in the right direction. Winning is good and all but if you look at the big picture, it might lead us to another wasted year with a lame duck HC in 2024.

Good questions. I don't really have strong feelings about Flus and Getsy.

Flus will manage time poorly and make a bad decision here and there. Last game the defense seemed solid, competent.

Getsy has some good rushing concepts. Maybe he hasn't used Fields in the best way.

thats hilarious that a team that wasn't looked at as a playoff contender before the season, is going to fire their coach because he missed the playoffs

Arizona will have Kyler Murray back when they play the bears, and they aren't substantially worse. It's pretty much a toss up with Dobbs.

JF shouldn't be getting pressure from 3-4 rushers / defenders. JF has basically nothing in terms of OL support nor
Qb / OC ...coaching support as I've pointed out above link ##51 including the 3 yr. numbers

But I get it.....u don't care for JF as the Bears Qb, And it's pretty much JF's fault for most things offensive related.
I also get it, You're a Bagent supporter.

Yes, they are.

They started their tank in August.....their mirage of a Dallas win and a few close games doesn't change the fact that they're pretty devoid of talent.

They will be in the hunt with Carolina for worst record; at around 3 wins

Have Bears fans forgotten that George has bungled basically everything since he took over? 5-12/6-13 will be enough for Eberflus to keep his job.

Don’t sleep on Carolina. I don’t think they’ll get the first pick. They have some winnable games coming and their team is starting to get healthy. If your homerism thinks it’s certain they’ll get the 1st pick, prepare yourself for heartbreak.
